Harbough Stuck with Alex Smith, because he thought he could win with him.. And actually the 49'ers were undefeated with Alex Smith and than he got hurt.. Im sure Harbough thought he could win with Alex Smith.. It would be intersting to see who he had rank on his board as top QB's.. I can definately bet it wasnt KAP...
Harbough stuck with Alex because he was waiting on Kaepernick to develop and the first opportunity he got, he put the quarterback out there he wanted and stuck with him despite what Alex did. If Harbough had so much faith in Alex _ he wouldn't have spent a valuable pick on a QB when he could have picked up one in a later round. Green Bay did the same thing with Rodgers when they got a new coach.
And I'm sure Harbough had Cam ranked as the best QB on his board and if San Francisco would have had the #1 pick _ Cam would be a 49er... So he drafted the next closest QB that looked like Cam which was Kaepernick.
I found this on Bridgewater, (Teddy Bridgewater, not Cam or Kap or Smith) in high school. He was considered the #2 dual threat in the country at the time. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/FV9vv7QxREM?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Yeah I know it's high school (top ten program in the country) but it's obvious he could run then and he just chose not to in college. Probably by his coaches but either way the kid stays focused on passing and only uses his running out of absolute necessity.
None of them had anything close to resembling Kaps defense though. If you switched Kap with any of those players, the 49ers would still be the best team. Same thing with Wilson, he strongly benefits from a great defense. I think Kap and Wilson are better than all those guys mentioned, but they are far from getting it done on their own. They also have solid RB play. Teddy would benefit from 2 GREAT wrs, a great rb, and if healthy a good defense. His chances of success are much higher with those things in place. Promise you if we draft a qb and our roster stays relatively healthy, he will do better than a qb that goes to Jacksonville. Also Cush was playing great this year. He won the game for us against SD and we were playing great against Seattle(Super Bowl favorite, one game away) before he went out that game and that was a huge reason we lost the game. We are a different team when he's in the game. Would love to pick up Skov in the 3rd however, we need more help at ILB. KJax is not our 2nd best defensive player.
Here he is in high school as well, and at the 3:00 mark he says he wants to establish that he's a pocket passer first. And he looks like a different player in his college film. Minimal running. The fact that he could adjust his game and become a true pocket passer is really impressive. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/tyHtxig0BnY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I agree with you about Kaepernick and Russell. They are in a position like Tom Brady was in when New England won it's super bowls and Big Ben when he won his first one. Manage the game, make a play when needed, and don't F it up for the defense. They're still good young QBs though. And it's possible about Teddy. I never argued that he couldn't are wouldn't be any good. Never said that once. Just said he wouldn't go with the #1 overall pick. And we only have ONE GREAT receiver by the way.
I think you would be pleasantly surprised if we drafted him. If there is any qb in this draft who could "manage" us to a deep playoff run or the superbowl, its Bridgewater.
Not sure if this has been posted but the overwhelming consensus right now is that we go with Bridgewater, which I am absolutely fine and happy with. 10 out of 14 writers have us taking Teddy. That doesn't make for headlines though, the media wants to hear about Johnny F and Clowney. http://www.houstontexans.com/news/article-2/Texans-Mock-Draft-10/49bd5a92-acae-4d6b-aed5-82d887630c65
lot of herd mentality / following the pack at this stage. Geno Smith was talked about #1 this time last year. I wouldn't put much stock in any mock at this time of year
bigtexxx- you really dont want Bridgewater- We get that.., but i really think you will be very suprised with Bridgewater, either here with Texans or with the Jaguars.. I have a feeling if the Texans pass on him the Jaguars will take him, and you will have a close look at him2 times a year...
? I was just saying that trying to say "10 out of 14 writers" isn't convincing evidence. It's taking the average of a lot of guesswork. I've consistently said that I'm not yet convinced Ted is the pick at #1, due to his unproven status vs. top flight competition as well as his slight build. Saying he will go to Jacksonville isn't reason enough for us to draft him, sorry.
bigtexxx, If Bridgewater throws for 3700 and has 25 or more Tds and 15 or less ints, will you wear a "I love Teddy" shirt???
Hmm, Teddy Bridgewater or bust? I don't see it as an "or" situation because it is potentially an "and" situation.
I don't have a dog in the fight and I am on the fence, but one thing that I keep coming back to is that a quarterbacks most important function is to make smart and quick decisions on where to place the ball and to place it there with accuracy and timely. I think that ability is all too often over shadoweed by big plays and the "it" factor, but at the end of the day, the vast majority of the time, the area that elite QBs succeed are in quick decisions coupled with accurate and timely throws. Bridgewater hasn't completely wowed me by any means, but the fact that he does seem to excel in those categories is pretty important in my eyes and shouldn't be easily written off.

Thank you All the smoke about Bortles and Manziel is exactly what it is smoke. Won't be surprised if the Texans are trying to fleece the Browns into trading up for Manziel and nab Bridgewater later I see a Tom Brady style passer in Bridgewater, unless there is a Marino, Elway, Kelly, Manning or Luck in the draft. BOB will get Bridgewater (Unless he feels Mallett could get the job done, Id support him either way)
