Pretty much what you said. They gave up the better hardware and $100 to get a next gen system now.

Let's see what happens in a month or two. There should be a huge jump once Sony can at least supply half the current demand.

If Sony has the supply for January and February, they'll outsell the Xbox for sure. However, if Titanfall can be nearly as good as everyone expects it to be, I think PS4 loses the edge in March/April.

From then on, it'll be all about the games rather than the hardware, multimedia, etc...

PS4 launches in Japan in late February. March and April should be pretty good for the PS4.

He's talking about US only I think. XBO probably won't have much of a shot anywhere else, unless PS4 also starts to do poorly (though then it will probably be more of a tie).

I can see XBO going ahead during that time (in the US), though not sure if it will be solely due to Titanfall. I think we sometimes overrate the impact a single game will have.

I was mostly referring to the US market since the numbers posted were talking about xbox1/ps4 sales in the US.

The PS4 is much more heavily used around the world.

This. Casual gamers are the market. I don't consider myself a casual gamer and I have never heard of Titanfall. Maybe hardcore gamers who hear about this game from fanboys will buy it due to the hype, but I doubt this 1 game is going to push many consoles.

It has to be a known platform exclusive like Halo or Mario.

The only reason Xbox sold more was because it was in stock. Ps4 has more overall demand.

I dont think it really matters if youre a casual gamer or hardcore gamer...if you havent heard of Titanfall, then my title for that would be "not much of a gamer"...or "been hibernating for a year gamer".

Well, that's Sony's fault. Should have had a more focused launch. Xbox focused on the US and few other territories. MS knew they would sell less than the PS4, but North America is key for them. Just stay within striking distance early until their system seller titles are released. First one is In March. Some of you have said causal gamers don't know about Titanfall. Oh, they will by March. Titanfall will get Halo-type Marketing. It will sell systems.

The reason PS4 fanboys are talking down this game is because it is a system-seller type game and Sony really doesn't any of those that are exclusive. The Uncharted series is good....but it doesn't get the buzz. Multiplayer-driven games are usually the system sellers.

They desperately want the XB1 to fail so they can get those XBOX exclusives.

Then why are you in a console thread?

It's like me entering a thread titled "Hottest Fat Chicks"...and then telling everyone Im not into fat chicks. Kind of pointless, no?

I hear you guys, people on internet forums talking about it. Not everyone uses the internet like us or visits the gaming section of reddit. To them the internet is all about facebook, twitter, and instagram.

Based on a Google search it won't sell consoles. It looks overrated and like one of those games fanboys will convince themselves is good in order to keep playing it. Watch me be right.

Also, if it's that good then expect it to be downloaded on steam or piratebay.

Of course it will be downloaded on steam or piratebay, but that doesnt really have much to do with the game selling consoles.

And people have actually played the game...it's not some made up fantasy world where gamers are predicting Titanfall to be a fun game. It already is a fun game.

Ive skipped COD this go round and have put in about 20 hours of BF4...FPS games are stale right now, anything that will keep my attention for more than 100 hours will be huge at this point...and Im pretty confident Titanfall can do that.

Final Fantasy is why I have PS & PS2.

Zelda is why I have SNES, N64, GC, & Wii

Pokemon is why I have a GB Color

Mario is why I want a WiiU

I think I'll get an XBox1, but not until Halo is released, and even then, I may wait a couple of years for a price drop and by then, who knows.

Of the two situations, I would much prefer to be in Sony's position. Seems like PS4 sold just a bit less than XBO in December (around 860K seems to be the guesstimated number). Still a couple hundred thousand units ahead in the US/NA. Big lead overall.

I guess you could argue they should have shifted more units to the US, but I don't know if that really matters, especially since they are ahead. They could have built a bigger lead, but I'm not sure that benefit outweighs any benefits from building a userbase (and hype) in those other regions.

Numbers from NeoGAF (alluded to some already):
Various figures we got from around the world for 2013:
    Total (known) figures:
Missing a lot of data, so that's why it doesn't match the figures Sony and MS gave. Some are suspicious of MS's official numbers, but I don't think we can really say anything definitively without data from all 13 regions (which we'll never have, except from MS). You could be suspicious of Sony too. They launched in more countries, but that doesn't mean you couldn't be suspicious of their numbers as well (majority of their shipments still went to the US).

    Some software numbers:
Took this from several posts from NeoGAF (hope they're correct, they look like it).

Neogaf is a terrible source, just as Latino Reviews is a terrible source for movies. They make claims simply to drive pageviews. The only people that know actual consoles and games sold vs. shipped is Microsoft and Sony. Then the only people that have a legitimate history of correctly predicting the overall strength of platforms is IDC and Gartner.

VGChartz, Neogaf and others try to correlate basic sales rank data from online retailers with the little official information that is out there. Long story short - they're full of ****. Neogaf also intentionally closes off it's forums so they can keep it one giant Neogaf circlejerk.
