Some actors were going to get snubbed in that category. 2013 was way too competitive. Redford in All Is Lost, Joaquin Phoenix in Her, Hugh Jackman in Prisoners, and Hanks in Captain Phillips or Saving Mr. Banks. Zero nods for any of those performances.

I have a feeling that American Hustle is going to sweep.

And as expected, even though it's been going on for over 70 years and individuals in other fields get awards (athletes, President's Club awards, and the military gives a lot- some deserved, some not according to military members I've worked with), cue the cliched conservative with the "damn Hollywood awards show" comments. What a bunch of saps.

Still don't understand the love for American Hustle, but to each their own. Another year Leo won't win an oscar, most likely going to McConaughey

They tend to like more cerebral, high-brow films- which explains why Annie Hall won over Star Wars in 1977. Give them a well-written script in the Drama category, with good acting performances- particularly an ensemble, and you're sure to be nominated or win- like:

    Shakespeare in Love
    American Beauty
    Pulp Fiction
    No Country for Old Men
    Etc.

Certain categories tend to get overlooked, like Horror, Science Fiction, and Comedy. Explain why only one horror movie has ever won best picture (Silence of the Lambs), one fantasy (the 2nd Lord of the Rings), etc.

I liked American Hustle quite a bit, but it wasn't that good and the performances weren't that great compared to others this year.

Tom Hanks and Michael B. Jordan were snubbed.

Rooting for good recognition for Wolf of Wall Street, Gravity, and Dallas Buyer's Club.

Yea, and it would be appropriate being the title of their movie, Hustle it's way through the Oscars.

Poor Leo, this could have been the year if not for McConaughey

I'm rooting for McConaughey and Leto, they put on a great performance in Dallas Buyers Club.

Already? Only movie buffs will appreciate the Academy Awards each year. They should have the awards every other year.

Nah, my money is on 12 Years a Slave for Best Picture. Director could go to Cuaron. Gravity will never win Best Picture though since it's sci-fi and the Academy hates that category. Jennifer Lawrence is unfortunately the favorite for Best Supporting Actress which is totally undeserved, but that may be one of the only categories American Hustle wins. At least I hope it is as that movie is very overrated. Best Actor is a tossup, although I think this may be Leo's year finally. Leto and Blanchett are close to locks in their acting categories.

What makes Before Midnight an adapted screenplay and not an original? Didn't they write that specifically for the big screen?

    I lol'd at "Lupita Nyong'o - 12 Years a Slag."

How accurate are Golden Globe winners, in predicting Oscar winners?

The Sixth Sense was kinda a horror/fantasy. It lost to American Beauty though. No Country for Old Men was more a crime/horror film than a straight drama. It's probably, tonally, the darkest film to win sin Silence of the Lambs.

Generally, there isn't much correlation. There's always a lot of the same winners and a lot of different winners, like you'd expect.
