I'm not entirely sure why this big 3 model has become the way to go.

IMO, 2 stars and high quality complimentary players are good enough. Take the big 3 at the Heat for example. Bosh has clearly been marginalized and limited compared to his Toronto days. I just don't see enough shots on the offensive end to warrant a big 3.

Make no mistake, I'd take Love or LMA in a big 3 but what I'm saying is that a big 3 is not the be all end all

If the Rockets had a PG or PF at the same level of Parsons at their respective positions I firmly believe the Rockets would be title contenders.

    It's GM-speak.

Tempering our expectations this year as well as issuing a challenge to Parsons, Jones and Lin.

The worst in the league... Garcia cant hit a bucket to save his life, and well we know Brewer doesnt even play much, and when he does he scores 0 points.. I like Casspi, but he has more bad games than good games..
Greg Smith- well hes always hurt, even when hes healthy. Omer Asik- So dissapointed in this guy.. I would think he would have more fire to him..
D-MO- Not very good at all.. He has showed some flashes, but most of the time just plain sucks...
Aaron Brooks is probably our best bench scorer.

Morey needs to really upgrade our bench to some more consistent guys..
Someone that can come out of the bench and score 10-12 pints on a consistent basis would really help..

Theres to many games were alot of our bench players come out with 0 points.. Thats pretty hard to do if you are playing atleast 10 minutes a game..

Our best bench player is wearing diapers, and that's a huge factor. Asik will eventually be traded, and the rotation will get an upgrade. Patience.

The last time a big two won was maybe the Lakers - with Kobe and Shaq.

But you can definitely say the Bulls teams only had a big two. Outside of those teams have had 3 scoring threats

    Boston: KG, Pierce, Allen
    L.A.: Kobe, Gasol, Odom
    Detroit: Rip Hamilton, Rasheed
    SA: Duncan, Manu, Parker
    Miami: Lebron, Wade, Bosh/Allen

So having 3 stars that can create a shot is big.

I think Harden and Parsons are there. Maybe they need one more year to become on a championship level. The issue is that Howard really can't create his own shot effectively. He's no LMA. If he doesn't get the ball in the right spot, he's not going to score. That's his biggest issue along with ft's.

So who is the other guy who can help you score when teams are locking down on Harden and Parsons and just doing hack a howard? That is the problem with this team that we see many times against good defenses.

Lin isn't consistent in creating a shot yet in crunch time. And Jones is a bit wild and not a shot creator - he's more of a finisher and offensive rebounder. But he has more potential that Howard.

So I think we do need someone who can create a shot in crunch time off the dribble besides Parsons and Harden. Or a post guy that can get a shot off but those kinds of players don't really exist much.

I think Milsap would be a great addition.

What 3rd star do we need, it looks like LOVE is done in Minny. Not enough players to create a successful team and I don't think a 2nd star will sign with Minny. Tough living environment.

So what is the best that Minny could do, Asik, Parsons, Jones, and Lin for Brewer and Love plus multiple draft pics. Who else would gut their team and still have the pieces attractive to Love?

Don't need 3 stars to win as long as your team is good enough. It's not cut and dry. I'd rather have a worse 3rd best player but a better 4th and 5th in the rotation. Lin needs to step up and we need to get someone good for Asik.

Lin, TJ and Parsons will become the 3rd, 4th and 5th star...We will have 5 stars.

Great. Morey can trade Asik for the best bench in the league then.

    We're set at the 2,3 and 5.

Jones just turned 22 and has been good enough to warrant long-term consideration at the 4.

Our PG situation is the real mystery here.

Beverley and Lin are both 25. How much better are they going to get?

Obviously, the Deng/Millsap/Dunleavy/whatever types would help with depth and what not in the short-term, but if we're trying to figure out a long-term solution for this elusive third star, my gut says to look at the point.

Well, people said that about Dragic last year when he was 27, but he has clearly gotten better this year. I think the fact that Dragic, like Lin, didn't get to play much his first few years in the league has something to do with his later development.

I don't necessarily feel we should focus all our energy in getting a 3rd superstar. Morey could miss out on 8 or 9 good solid deals just by chasing players like Kevin Love. If we can could get 2 or 3 solid players like Parsons, why need a superstar?

Parsons is the glue man. Not the "3rd star". I don't think that's an absolute must if you have a good bench. The bench has issues though- health, big baby crocodile tears, young players developing slowly... but I think Morey will continue to shuffle them and bring in new talent.

Hopefully a team steps up and offers the right price for Asik. I think we're all ready to see the next incarnation after adding Dwight, to see how they continue to build on the big move. All we need is a little patience [/axel]

Maybe a big trade in the works for Morey to land star #3? Chicago, Minnesota, Houston:

    - Asik, Lin, Parsons, Boozer to Minn
    - Motiejunas, Pekovic and Shved to Chicago
    - Love, Rubio to Houston.

Why would Chicago do this? Why would Minn do this?

That's GREAT considering the supporting cast and coaching they have compared to those other teams.

I believe Pop may be controlling minutes over in San Antonio and he'll play practically everyone on the bench.

I don't think they need 3 stars... BUT, I do believe they could possibly have a great player developing in TJ... Just imagine how good he would be now if McHale would have kept playing him like Sampson was doing last year.

As Sweet Lou 4 2 pointed out earlier, every team since the Kobe/Shaq Lakers has had 3 all-star caliber players. I would add Bynum to his Lakers list actually. I think that was a mistake.

In addition, the Rockets don't have a super-duper mega-star. If you replace Harden with Lebron/Durant, I'd agree with you that we can make it work with only two stars. But Harden and Howard are both flawed stars. I think we should go more with the Celtics approach and at least bring in a Ray Allen level player.

Also, assuming the Rockets can obtain a star(not necessarily superstar) without trading Parsons, then we really have a 4-deep team.
