What else should he have done to prove he couldn't dominate his conference? 303 passes - 3900+ passing yards - 71% completion rate - 31 TD - 4 INT
If that's your only argument that he shouldn't be a top pick, then you don't have any argument at all. As I've said before, nearly every single quarterback to play college football has had multiple bad games (and Teddy's against UH wasn't even that bad). Andrew Luck did nothing against San Jose State, even though he had superior talent surrounding him. Does that mean he shouldn't have been drafted so highly? Absolutely not.

The thing about taking a running QB is that the running aspect of their game has to be icing, but not the cake. A QB has to have the ability to play purely from the pocket. If they can do other stuff, great. But if their effectiveness is predicated on the threat of running or playing outside of the pocket, then that's a recipe for failure sooner or later. A decline in their ability to run, be it through age or injury, can all of a sudden make them ineffective when they're suddenly forced to be purely a pocket passer. And you also can't afford to have your QBs passing effectiveness go down if a team manages to bottle up their running ability. So the question with Manziel is, how good of a QB is he if he's asked or forced to just play from the pocket? He's supposed to have gotten better. But is that better good enough? Is it superior to other QBs? Whenever I hear somebody hyping up Manziel on ESPN or sports radio, they do it with the caveat that the HC/OC needs to design an offense around him. Obviously, coaches need to take advantage of their players strengths. But IMO, an NFL QB needs to have the ability to play in a pro style offense. You can add in things to take advantage of their other skills, but if a QB NEEDS an offense designed for him because he lacks the ability to be effective otherwise, then that's not a good QB.
Add in the fact that O'Brien favors an adaptable offense that can change its game-plan on a week-to-week basis, and I'm not quite sure Manziel fits with the Texans, as he does need an offense designed around him.
i hope it's a smoke grenade. I'd like to see JF but with the no.1 selection? i cringe. then again, if that's your guy you go for it. I'll trust our scouts.
And what is his record for predicting who would be the number one pick? That's the only pick I'm concerned about at the moment.
I'm sure this has been posted, but what the hell. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...nziel-ranks-no-1-on-top-50-nfl-prospects-list Number one here we come!
By the time the draft comes a long, people have a pretty good idea who's going first, especially since deals tend to be worked out before hand. So the final mocks tend to get it right. But at this point? There's probably not a good track record. Eric Fisher was not thought of as the #1 pick this time last year. Neither was Cam Newton. I don't think Sam Bradford was either. The last time we had the #1 pick everybody knew it was going to be either Reggie Bush or Vince Young.
“JaMarcus Russell’s gonna immediately energize that Raider Nation, that fanbase, that football team- on the practice field, in that locker room- three years from now you could be looking at a guy that’s certainly one of the elite top five quarterbacks in this league. You’re talking about a 2-3 year period once he’s under center. Look out because skill level that he has is certainly John Elway like.”-----MEL KIPER JR. and also "Wes Welker is not worth a second round pick. I don't care how much you like his work ethic ... he has done nothing to show a value that high"- MEL KIPER Jr. "He (Peyton Manning) isn't John Elway, Dan Marino or Jim Kelly, but he's as good as it gets in college football," Kiper said of Manning. "A lot of these teams in the NFL are desperate for quarterbacks and he's the best out there, with Ryan Leaf a real close second."- MEL KIPER JR. This guy is a complete dumb ass...
Jim Harbough was an NFL quarterback, he coached Andrew Luck in college _ But then he passes up on Locker, Gabbert, Ponder, Dalton and drafted Kaepernick who was the closest thing to Cam (who Harbough raved about)... A guy who needs an offense built around him. And coming out of college, Kaepernick is nothing as you described. Strange huh...??? Kaepernick's running was the cake and and his rocket arm was the icing and Harbough is developing him. Any good QB coach/coordinator will develop a QB while building a system around a QB that best fits his strengths and are adjust his system and play calling so it can. Something that Kubiak couldn't do for Schaub. And if O'Brien can't do that _ FIRE HIM NOW...!!!!
In perhaps his only test of the season, he looked average. not sure why that's hard for you to process. deal with it
The season is over and these QBs won't participate in the combine. They will have pro days, but will that sway your opinion that much?
What are you saying? Bortles was even less than average against them. Your a guy who expects qbs to throw and double coverage
This bigtexxx guy is hilarious, I have read his past postings (in general) and I would take what he says for crystallized grains of salt. Especially concerning Bridgewater
Awesome, thanks for the video Clutch. Keeping the off-season entertaining, that and the entire new staff. Gotta love it. Manziel is going to be one entertaining player to watch.
