Somebody should have told the shooter I can't hear the movie because you are shooting your gun and then shot him with a gun with a silencer on it. ;)

he could have dimmed his phone and it would have been less obvious what he was doing. but, he must not have been a dimmer...more like a dimwit.

so is a restaurant. What i mean is you are out in public and as such, it is logical to have a gun for protection of you and yours.

the popcorn could have been really hot with boiling hot butter on it and, when it was thrown at him, it stuck to his face and started melting his face like in "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

    We don't know... .

Just as logical now as it would of been then. If a random nutjob wants to attack you, who gives a **** where or when it is?

I'll just say that I think attitudes towards carrying guns are wildly different in the USA (and in Texas, especially) compared to the rest of the world.

That is more of a cultural and not a logical argument.

pretty much every theater I have been to over the last 10 years has had advertisements of some sort asking people not to use their phones (and they typically specifically mention texting) because it's distracting and disturbs other patrons. Just because it doesn't disturb you doesn't mean it does not disturb other people.

If you text it does not necessarily make you a jerk. But if someone asks you to stop and you refuse to stop or at least take it to the lobby you are a jerk. If you confront that patron because he reported you to management then you are an absolute fuking jerk.

Being a jerk does not make it ok for someone to kill you. It does not mean you brought it on yourself. Having said that, showing just a little consideration might have prevented the guy from getting killed.

In the end the old man was wrong. You don't kill people for being an ass whole. But when you are an ass whole to a total stranger you could be putting your life at risk so.... it's a much better policy not to go through life as an ass whole. I think the old man pretty much proves that point.

Judging from the way he was treating this woman, it is entirely possible that the old man was being rude to this guy- you know, like 'Hey, *******, stop texting in the damn theatre!" If someone said it like that to me, I probably wouldn't stop what I was doing just out of spite (but then again, I don't text in theatres). All we know is what witnesses told us and what happened- and the guy sitting two seats away said BOTH were arguing. And one guy was shot.

There's no lesson to be learned. Being a jerk can get you killed? So, the next time I accidentally cut someone off on the freeway and I get shot by the person I cut off, what's the lesson then? "Be a more courteous driver or you could be killed?" Nothing the man did warranted getting shot. Nothing. It teaches no lesson to anyone, especially considering we have no idea who was being verbally abusive. All we know is that an argument and popcorn led to a death. No lesson at all.
