How do we know that the old man wasn't a jerk as well? there are many very annoying and rude words he could have used when he asked the victim to stop texting. To me, someone that'll get riled up enough to shoot someone over an argument over texting and popcorn thrown at your seems to have anger issues. Also he seemed pretty jerkish & self entitled just by bring a gun into a movie theater.

An attorney says Curtis Reeves had a previous incident with a woman in a movie theater involving text messaging.

2 questions before I can answer.

Are the phones on silent, so that we just see the light and don't have to hear the click of each letter?

Does the gun have a silencer?

If the texters phone is not on silent and constantly texting through out the movie, I might go with option 2 if it is just one pull of the trigger on a silenced pistol.

I lost it a couple of times in the public. I don't know about others. Once I calmed down in those situations, I realized that oh man I definitely should have said and done stuff I just now said and did. We are all humans. You don't know what exactly were said between them and how the whole thing transpired and escalated. To me, both have lost it and that's why taking a gun to a theater is a bad bad idea to say the least.

Taking a gun to a theater is a great idea if you're a mature adult who can control his emotions.

So how do you know when you are a mature adult who can control his emotions.
I'm sure that old retired cop knew he was too immature to carry a weapon into a theater and did so otherwise:rolleyes:

If the texter didn't go see that movie, I'd put your money that the old man couldn't shoot him.
If the texter didn't take a job in Tempa, I'd put everybody's money that old man couldn't shoot him.
    ...

Rage happens all the time, a man getting killed for texting doesn't happen all the time. Let's focus on why the old man took a gun to the theater and shot the guy for petty stuff like this.

Why does one need to take a gun to a theater watching a movie? Why, why, why?

Except that most movie theaters do not allow firearms.

    Lol... you and cops:grin:

Besides, are you suggesting if the man who was killed was armed in this situation, he would have been alive today?

Let us have a dose of reality here. If the popcorn throwing man was armed he still would have been shot. The guy never expected the old man to draw out a firearm and shoot him. He would not have sufficient enough time to take out his weapon and return fire to save his life.

The risk of being killed driving is much much higher than getting shot in a theater. Do we drive a tank on the road? Ok, you may say b/c other people bring guns to the theater, to which I am just dumbfounded at.

...but at the Colorado movie theater massacre, you'd wish one of them had a gun.

No, I do not wish. Hell no. So everybody should bring gun to a theater because of that? Are we going to be Robin Hood or what?

Another government failure. 10% of the people on the road shouldn't have driver license. Insurance companies know there are a small percentage of people who mess up the roads for everyone else.

a shoot out no matter how well intentioned the "saving party" is especially in a dark crowded theater threatens the lives of any bystanders.

No bond for theater shooting suspect Curtis Reeves

DADE CITY, Fla. - UPDATE: A Pasco County judge on Tuesday denied bond for Wesley Chapel theater shooting suspect and former Tampa Police captain Curtis Reeves, Jr.
Circuit Judge Lynn Tepper said the defense can make its case for setting bond before another judge at a later date.
A large group of family, friends and colleagues attended the first appearance hearing to show support for Reeves, who was not present in the room. He appeared via video link from the Land O' Lakes Jail.
Reeves is charged with 2nd degree murder.
PREVIOUS: Reeves is accused of shooting a man and his wife in a Wesley Chapel movie theater Monday afternoon.
Deputies say Reeves shot another moviegoer during an argument over texting before a movie at the Cobb Theatres at Grove 16 shopping center.
Reeves, 71, retired from the Tampa Police Department in 1993 as a captain, according to Tampa police. Reeves was instrumental in establishing the department's first Tactical Response Team, police said. His son, Mathew Reeves, is now a Tampa police officer and has been with the department since 2003.
After retiring from the police department, Curtis Reeves worked at Busch Gardens until 2005 as the Director of Security, according to Busch Gardens Tampa, but no further information was available about his employment with the park.
Reeves moved to Hernando County several years ago where he served as a board member for the Hernando County Crime Stoppers program, but he is no longer active with the organization.
The ABC Action News I-Team also discovered Reeves was a hunter, with hunting licenses in Ohio and Georgia dating back to 2001.
Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said Reeves and his wife were sitting behind Chad Oulson and his wife, Nicole, in the Cobb CineBistro movie theater when Reeves asked Oulson to stop texting before the movie. The argument escalated and that's when Reeves pulled out a handgun and shot Chad Oulson in the chest, according to Nocco. Oulson's wife tried to shield her husband from the shot, but the bullet went through her hand.
Chad Oulson, 43, died shortly after and his wife was treated for her hand injury.
"I just can't imagine," said Elnora Brown. "I can't imagine what happened that he would do that."
Brown has been a family friend of Reeves for the past 45 years. She described him as a good Christian man and a loving grandfather.
"I thought it just can't be. He's just not that kind of person," Brown said.
The sentiment echoed down the Brooksville street where Reeves and his family has lived for years.
"Curtis is a good guy. He's always been very nice to my wife, myself, "said Reeves's next door neighbor Bill Costas. "Personally, I'm very shocked."
"You just never know what's going to happen anymore. The world is getting more and more evil." said neighbor Joann Spence.

Another lady came forward saying that Reeves harassed her when she texted in a movie theater, and even followed her to the bathroom. Creepy.
