Sad but true. I guess some people are just fed up with the rudeness and lack of respect. That's a scary thought, because I see so many youth lacking in these areas.

    Correct.

If we start accepting that Rude behavior is deserving of being shot over. . . . our country is in for a lot of trouble.
Even if he become as indifferent to it .. . as the "Well he was a dick so what did he expect crowd . . . "
Our Country is in for a lot of trouble

I really think some people post just to get a response. I just can't believe people can be so stupid, and inconsiderate. Saying that the man deserved it, come on now. Heck, maybe I'm just the stupid naive one. I just hope that no one close to you dies a senseless death like this one.

Where in the story did it say he threw popcorn at the 71yr old man seem to me the one who was being the badass was the one who pulled the gun.the 43yr old was texting not talking there is a difference you know.

I like the part about...."I'm texting my daughter!". Umm...does that make it alright? Was that supposed to garner some sympathy and be allowed? Perhaps he would like to take five minutes to explain why it's so important he's texting his daughter in a movie theater. Is she in the hospital undergoing chemo? What's the story? Stop the projector...we have to hear why he's texting his daughter and why that makes it acceptable versus just going to the lobby and texting her? But, why should he have to go to the lobby when he can text and watch the previews at the same time? Better yet....why don't the rest of you go to the lobby and wait while I finish texting my daughter!

    Sarcasm off

Do not dishonor a old man in front of his wife.

The victim was completely a jackass, being inconsiderate - texting and throwing popcorn to an old couple means that he is willing to go nuke with the old man and the 71yr old man knew that he can't stand against a 41 year old man without using his weapon.

    No further question your honor.

There is a reason why Florida is shaped like a damn gun. And comments lead by 'crash' have just made me really worried about people. I don't know how you can condone someone shooting someone else over cell phone use. and then try to say 'oh he didn't deserve to die, BUT....'. GTFO with crap like that

The only one who "went nuke" was the guy who murdered someone over an argument about texting in a movie theater.

    This.

It turned to a physical altercation to were the 71yr old feared for his life going against a guy half his age.

He had the right to protect himself in fear of his life thus pulling out his .380 and unloading a few shots.

I feel some sympathy for him losing his life. I feel bad that he left behind a daughter and a wife. He loses sympathy points for his rude, confrontational, and aggressive behavior. He didn't deserve his fate.

If the victim came up to the old man to apologize for texting and tried to explain to him that he was just checking on his infant daughter, then that would mean he was sorry for his actions, was genuinely a good guy, and I would feel sorry for him because he was an innocent victim that faced the wrath of a crazy old man.

But, the story, as told, said the victim engaged in a confrontational manner to the old man, and instead of apologizing for his bothersome actions, postured and intimidated the old man, he comes off looking like a jackass that could still be alive if he had not escalated the situation.

The old man has majority of blame here, but the victim played his part and deserves some fault, too. That makes it hard to feel sympathy for him.

He feared for his life because the other guy was armed with...popcorn? As a trained cop, even if he feared for his life, couldn't he keep the other guy in check with his gun, instead of firing it?

Of course the guy didn't deserve to die. You should feel sympathetic for him and for his family that just lost a husband/father.

I can't imagine if my wife or daughter were murdered for doing something immature.

It SHOULD however be a lesson to people not to act like jerks. There is no reason for it and it can cost you dearly. It doesn't matter today that the dead guy didn't deserve to die or that I feel bad for him. He's dead and that can't be undone.

This is a more reasonable post than crash's posts.

As a side note, you guys should really have sweet popcorn in movie theaters, not only salty popcorn. Maybe this tragedy could have been averted if the popcorn had been sweet.

Some of the comments in this thread are pretty frightening.
