There are two armed off duty cops at all times at the movie theatre I go to. Some people are just disrespectful assholes and this is the type of outcomes their actions invite. Throwing popcorn? Come on.

I'm curious if the theatre had off duty cops. Could have prevented this.

I never said it was. I said, and I will repeat myself, I'm having a real hard time feeling sorry for the Jack Ass because he was bulling. Just the slightest bit of consideration or hell, not even consideration but don't escalate the situation by verbally bullying the guy because he went to management and then throw popcorn in the old mans face.

I have said repeatedly that the old man will go to jail. But good grief, have you ever heard of the golden rule? Do onto others as you would have them do onto you. It's a great rule to live by. Don't be a dick to people just because you are bigger than they are.

I don't even understand how texting is so disturbing? I have all these click noises turned off, but even if they are not turned off, they are not really very loud? Plus, it was during previews .

Just curious, what exactly about texting in the theater is a distraction for other people? It cant be noise unless one refers to notification sounds which on silent would be nothing. Is it the light from the phone?

It has to do with the bright screen being distracting. Along with that, the phone is probably on vibrate, which can definitely be audible.

Having said that, I don't think anyone has issues with texting, etc during previews (the exception being fanboys).

That's your opinion but most people don't want to hear that and yes a lot of people enjoy the previews. That's why the theaters play the little snippet on the screen to turn off your phone, don't text and be considerate. If you have to text go in the lobby, you are not the only one that paid to see the movie.

Once again just to make myself clear, the old man will go to jail and I don't see much from stopping that. But the whole thing could have been prevented if the texter would have followed the rules and taken his texting to the lobby.

It effectively is like a little flashlight shining straight up away from the phone.

I agree that it is really annoying.

I don't think anyone in this thread said that the jerk deserved to die, just that he was a jerk, and being a jerk gives you a slightly higher risk of getting your ass killed by someone not in their right mind.

    Seems pretty simple.

    Sad a stupid story overall!

This is why people should be considerate of others. The man thing to do would have been man up and either put the phone away or take it to the lobby a measily few feet away. The 40-something did not behave like a mature adult in this scenario from what it sounds like. But, neither did the 71 year old. Don't carry a gun if your going to rage and shoot somebody over something so stupid. I guess the 71 year old is going to try to argue he feared for his life because he was assaulted with...popcorn? You cannot predict outcomes of confrontation like this. So, proceed at your own risk. If you want to confront rather than act reasonably, then this outcome is always a possibility. Grow the ***** up!!! People get so pissed off at each other in the heat of the moment that they will kill.

Or what? You deserve to be shot? You deserve to be killed? The guy was texting his daughter- and how do you know the old man wasn't being rude to him? No offense, I am appreciative of police officers, but some of them can be quite a-holes themselves. Unless we find out that the man had a gun himself, there is absolutely no justification whatsoever, at all, for him being shot. I absolutely feel sorry for this man because no amount of rudeness to this degree means that you should lose your life. I am a very polite person, as are many on here, but let's face it- we've all been rude at least once, if not several times, in our lives. Whether driving or otherwise. And no matter how egregious the rudeness, of course one would feel sorry about losing their life over this. We're not talking the one guy punching the other- if anything, we're talking about popcorn. Think about that. Popcorn.

Correct. The old man was wrong to pull the gun out so quickly, and at the same time, the victim seemed overly aggressive by confronting, yelling, and throwing popcorn.

The light and sound/vibration. It's a dark movie theater and a light source is a clear distraction. I wouldn't confront someone over texting during previews, only if they're actively doing it during the movie.

But, the victim was asked to stop as it was bothering somebody. He continued to do it and got offended when management tried. Why not be polite, say sorry, and text later?

I think this is less about the texting, and more about the guy trying to tough it out on an old man... It just happens that his old man didn't take to it kindly and had a gun to prove it.

Yes, it's the light from the phone. It is annoying in a dark room.

Sucks this guy died though. Bad story all around.

That's how ****** up our society is now- the lesson is "don't be rude, or you might get killed." SMMFH.

It's ok I don't think he'd want a dick like you feeling sorry for him anyways. What if someone you cared and loved gets killed over something so trivial as a cellphone in the movie theatre?

I'm sure you wouldn't say the same thing is that situation. Get off your ****ing high horse.

No the whole thing could have prevented if the Old man showed restraint and DIDN'T SHOOT SOMEONE OVER A PHONE.

This is the same type of ass backwards logic you see in countries like India with rape. "Oh well, if the Girl didn't wear provocative clothing she wouldn't have gotten raped."

He'd say the exact same thing, "Well, my cousin does rude crap like that, so I don't feel sorry for him." Like I said, everyone's been rude at some point, and when we are, we need to be held accountable. Here are acceptable methods of accountability:

    1. Chastised by others;
    2. Denied privileges (e.g. kicked out of the theatre).
    3. Arrested and convicted..depending on the situation.

Somehow, being killed just doesn't quite fit my definition of being held accountable for rudeness. Sorry, I just prefer to be sane.

Nope. I like it just fine up here on my high horse. If you can't live by the golden rule then at least follow the words from a very wise man who once said, "Boy, don't let your mouth overload your ass!"

lol, ok I may be going to hell for this, but I just imagined this entire scenario playing out as a Chappelle "When 'keeping it real', goes wrong" skit.

    sorry
