I think the difference is between risk and certainty of harm.

Is every animal harmed? OR Does every animal run the risk of being harmed?

If not all are harmed, many more are harmed during a show than football players are. Plus, these football players have a choice in the matter. You think the bulls simply volunteered.

Many would tell you that after each and every football game you have nagging injuries (aka harmed).

The bulls other choice would be sitting cooked on a platter at Old San Francisco. Which would you chose?

I'd choose neither, but what I'd choose is irrelevant. The football players know the risks involved when they suit up, so they have a choice to play or not to play. These animals have no such choice.

Actually, the bull's other option would be to lay around all day, eating grass & making little bulls. They're not usually used for food.

What about the horses in general who are ridden? Whether it is the police, or the rodeo, do you not think having people on their back causes health problems or shortens their lives?

Police have cars and bikes why should they get on horses?

If the bulls had a brain, they should realize the reason they are used is due to them jumping, bucking, and flailing around thus they should stop.

Since they are stupid and continue to do what they do, they deserve what they get. The world has too many creatures to tolerate stupid animals.

Then they can only hope to one day be reincarnated as a human.

    :D

That is one of the reasons we use them. We are jealous, thus they should be put to work for our entertainment. ;)

I'm not really arguing for or against the rodeo, I was just challenging your bad analogy.

Maybe this year, someone could rope and hogtie Jon Bon Jovi. He deserves it.

Could we insert Hollis Price as one of the calves in the Calf Scramble? Gosh, knows he deserves to be punished for living in Oklahoma for 4 years ;). TJ is texas born and raised so he doesn't qualify.

Cowboy culture is pure sentimentality for a culture that no longer serves any functional purpose. It's positively maudlin. And the enduring relics of it cause animal torture.

I know that the people who engage in it don't mean any harm. But they're causing it anyway.

Without the rodeo, we would have never gotten this...

Thank you for posting this, Behad. I was unaware of these horrible practices. I will share this information with family and friends since they love attending this event.

Drat. I just realized I bumped an 13-year old thread. Oh well. I wonder what happened to many of these posters?
