Actually the man the hit nail right on the HEAD. T Jones is garbage man at best, a better version of Kelvin Cato, who CANNOT SHOOT. He isnt there to yet to net you something big, but def could be used in conjucntion with Asik and Lin in a trade package. He is more valuable to the Rockets then his trade value right to the NBA.
We are in win now mode. If trades come up that we cannot pass up, DM is going to make those happen in his pursuit of a 3rd star to pair with our big 2. I know most of the people on here including myself love Jones, but I believe he is going to be a part of any BIG TRADE that nets us a star. I just wish he could shoot from the outside, then I would be totally against trading him. If we dont trade him next year, I hope we do trade Asik (if he doesnt want to play) for a starting, vet 4, and bring Tjones off the bench with Lin. Then you let the chemistry follow, and see how dangerous this team can be come April.
According to CSN Houston, TJones had his 11th double-double of the season in that WAS game. Dwight has only 3 double-doubles. Keep him, and let him develop.
Yep keep him, I think he can even be better than Millsap one day. With a little more consistency, he'll be a star IMO.
You think so? Check out http://www.82games.com/1314/13HOU11.HTM#onoff Jones is the only player to feature in all 20 of Houston's best lineups this season. He opens the floor for others and allows the team to score more, at higher %s. He's young and developing, but already making a significant difference ON the court for us. Can't see why we'd move him except for an all-star. Jones is not the problem, the problem is that our big man rotation is only 2 people (Howard/ Jones). We need to add a third player by using Asik.
So a player averaging a double-double (17.9/12.7) only has 3 double-doubles? That would be pretty hard to average those numbers with only 3 double-doubles. He has 23, which is tied for 5th overall.
I am not going to say that I think that Jones is a great prospect. He is in a wonderful situation to shine. However, to those calling him "garbage", I have ask, where would the Rockets be without Jones. Can you imagine D-Mo getting 30 minutes a night? Omri Casspi? The Rockets would be in deep trouble.... and the team depth would be even worse.
I didn't call him "garbage". I called him a "garbage man". That's a common term for bigs who hang out around the rim and clean up the glass, get putbacks, or the ball happens to find them down low and they finish. Those are commonly referred to as garbage men, they clean up the mess, take out the trash. Omer Asik himself is a garbage man offensively. He really is best served to just get out of the way and let the offense run and then find himself under the rim when the shot goes up or to get inside when the defense totally lapses away from him and he can take a quick step into the paint, catch and finish. The sole reason why a lot of people don't view Jones as a garbage man is because he does have a very good handle for a power forward. That's the only reason they view him as something better. But we aren't developing his playmaking game so unless he drives and finishes it serves no purpose. Where would we be without Jones? Sorry, but my answer is this...about the same place. If we didn't have Jones we would be running DMo out there and DMo would be having his good and bad moments just like Jones is. Our record hasn't significantly improved since Jones has been in the starting lineup. And we are not using Jones in a playmaking capacity to expound on his handle. And he doesn't have nearly as broad an offensive skill set as DMo has while he is somewhat better defensively...but not much. We'd be about the same with or without TJones. Think about this. Where would we be if instead of TJones we had James Johnson??????
My response was not directed at you, someone else called Jones "garbage". I am well aware of what a garbage man is, Bo Outlaw was one of the best garbage men in the NBA for years. As far as the Rockets not being much better with Jones, how much of that is due to injuries? As far as DMO goes, sorry but he would most likely be a disaster. He is a very poor post defender and has not shot the ball well. Perhaps we catch lightening in a bottle and DMO's skills suddenly translate and we take off.... but I find it unlikely. Also, Jones protects the basket far better than DMO. I agree with the premise that Jones is not an ideal fit for what the Rockets want to do on offense. The Rockets need as many shooters and ball handlers on the floor as possible. Jones has shown promise in the past, as a potential perimeter shooter and ball handler.... but at this point he is not where he ideally would be.
T Jones plays just like Howard: don't protect the rim, no boxing out, do not play P&R defense, do not set picks. All empty stats, no hustle. Hope he can improve on other team.
Probably 5-10 wins worse?? Have you actually seen Jones play? He doesn't just wait around the rim for offensive rebounds.... He has the ability to post up and score, or drive and score. There's a reason he's averaging 12 a game as a starter.
DMo would not be playing the post with Dwight. He'd be playing PF like Jones is. Jones doesn't play the post for all those minutes that he is out there. I agree DMo's defense has been terrible but we did see a spark a few games back. Looks like it was just a spark and didn't flame into anything. But DMo did play somewhat effectively in the post and McHale kept Dwight on the bench for that comeback win. That's why I say not much difference between DMo and Jones as far as wins and losses. DMo is probably a SLIGHTLY better shooter than Jones ...... but ..... that's not saying much really. And TJones is probably slightly better than DMo defensively playing alongside Dwight .... but that's not saying much either.
Jones is averaging 12 a game because he is playing 30 minutes a game, most of those minutes alongside Dwight and/or Harden. If you put James Johnson in Tjones stead you wouldn't see any drop off.
You're comparing raw offensive skills against raw offensive skills though. Just like how TJones' handles aren't used by us much, DMo's offensive post skills are not often called upon. Rockets call for and utilize Jones' garbage man skills WAY more than they would feed DMo in the post. So you'd have to be saying DMo's ability to clean up the glass is essentially the same as TJones', which I don't think is the case at all. We're also forgetting rebounds. DMo is allergic to them; TJones is pretty good at snagging them, and this is before we even factor in his amazing blocking skills (his defensive rotations and man to man is aight, and as you said, prob just a bit better than DMo's).
I dont think they are winning a championship this year and I think jones is a good fit next to howard. The better question is who would you trade jones for?
