Manziel's throwing mechanics are a lot more natural than Young's. VY looked like a robot trying to throw the ball. The way Manziel throws and moves reminds me of Brees/Favre. He is a brees/Favre lovechild.
He just needs to learn to slide a little more and to run out of bounds. It's not like he is only back there scrambling. If he has time back there in the pocket, he will throw it from there. when he gets flushed out, he still keeps his eyes downfield and throws the ball. when he can take it for a few yards and slide, he does. Yeah he has more to work on, but all of these qbs do.
I actually think Johnny was the reason A&M's O-Line was one of the best. Because that O-Line looked alot different when they played Rice for that time without Johnny. I think it's really hard to judge an O-Line with a mobile QB or a QB that gets rid of the ball quickly. How good is the kid from A&M doing on the pro level that was drafted high last year...??? Get my point. And for that reason I would fear drafting Matthews high.
If he uses his legs like Russel Wilson he'll be fine. Wilson is the best I've seen at always looking past first, even when he is moving. He never fully commits to running. That keeps you alive. Manziel can't have the hero's mentality in the NFL because those guys will kill him.
Most of these "Little" QBs (or QBs in general) get hurt in the pocket. Vick had most of his injuries in the pocket getting hit by D-Lineman so did Brees and Rodgers I believe. But he can't be out there like RG3 taking on LBs head on. That's just foolish.
VY's problems in the NFL were never related to mechanics. Sure, his mechanics were goofy, but the ball got from Point A to Point B consistently and quickly and there was really no reason to mess with that. He wasn't constantly under or overthrowing receivers due to mechanical issues. His problems were in making the right reads and processing NFL defenses (which he actually did decently towards the end - at that point, his problems were more about health and emotional stability). Manziel/Bridgewater is similar to the VY/Leinart and RG3/Luck debates. One group (Bridgewater, Leinart, Luck) played solid, fundamentally sound, traditional footballl in a pro-style offense. The other (VY, RG3, Manziel) created magic on the field with their creativity and by breaking the mold. The latter group has the higher ceiling but the lower floor because there are simply more questions about how their games translate to the NFL. Manziel's more likely to be a superstar and also more likely to be out of the league in 5 years. The question for the Texans is simply which mold they prefer - there are good reasons to draft either one; it's just a question of which approach to take.
That's coaching and line play. RG3 was coached to run. They designed run plays specifically for him to run. Manziel needs a coach like O'Brien. Manziel wants to be great and O'Brien knows first hand what that takes since he helped coach Brady. I think the relationship could be electric.
Enough with the aggies and Houston football. Jack Pardee - ugh Bucky Richardson - bleh Gary Kubiak - sadness Randy Bullock - ick Not a formula for success.
I think Luck had a very high ceiling coming out. And VY is a head case... Cam would be a better example. But I'm starting to believe the Texans may not draft either one.
same here. Im starting to get the feeling that they will not draft any of them, and will decide to the great Blake Bortles
Well, considering he missed most the season because of an ankle injury, there is nothing to say about him. Offensive lineman arent drafted in the top 5 because a QB makes them look good...they are drafted that high because they have ideal size, strength, quickness, mechanics, etc... Manziel worked with a line that had potentially 3 lineman that may be drafted in the top 10 when it's all said and done. There is no other line in the country that can boast that.
so you think theyll trade with the Browns? and the Browns would get Manziel # 1 ? So do we get the # 4 and # 26(from Indy) from the Browns? that would be nice, but i doubt it.. since Teddy is ranked no # 1 (I would assume whoever wants to trade for that pick will be to pick Teddy.
Just because johnny and wilson are similar in stature and in height doesn't make them the same player. Wilson mechanics were never in question coming out of college he set the FBS efficiency record, the question was his height. He played great in 2 different systems at NC St then at Wisconsin he was also a professional baseball player. People are really trying to convince themselves johnny will be great by comparing him to some one he doesn't compare to.
Don't assume that. Just because these draft "EXPERTS" have Teddy ranked as the number one QB doesn't mean NFL teams think the same. And if they trade with Cleveland _ they should get their 1st round pick for next year as well. And I honestly think if they were to trade with Cleveland _ Bridgewater might still be there at #4 and the Texans will pass up on him.
Bridgewater will not be there at # 4 and if he is and the Texans Pass up on him they all should be fired.
