Really scratching my head as to why he wasn't picked higher. I remember before the draft when a thread was made about him with some tape almost all of the board members agreed he should be a top 10 or top 8 pick, and that he had KD potential. It seemed pretty obvious this guy had tremendous upside, lots of NBA GM's screwed the pooch on this one.
I could understand him slipping if he was in this year's draft class, seeing as how it's stocked with high level talents, but last year's class? Amazing how far he fell.
IIRC, the talk before the draft was that Morey was looking into trading for a 1st round pick, but would use it only on a player who was willing to (or had to for contract reasons) stay overseas because they needed the cap room for the Dwight Howard chase. Antetokounmpo's name came up, along with that of other international guys because they tend to be the ones delaying entering the NBA for a year after drafted. If Antetokounmpo was aiming to come to the NBA right away, and it seems that he was, I wonder if Morey would have still tried hard to land a pick for him. And btw, HOU would have had the 17th pick but for the fact that Morey traded it for Terrence Williams.
crazy lanky and seems like he can get to the rim off one dribble from anywhere. but... how good is his jumper? I love his unselfish play from the highlights but I don't think I saw a single jumper. Does his form at least look good? I agree he physically looks like Durant but Durant also has an incredible jump shot.
His jumper is not good, at least not from what I saw last night. He air-balled a 3 REALLY badly, and I remember a pretty good number of bricks too. He definitely needs to work on his shot.
He looks like KD, but his game is more like Pippen, since he can't shoot, I think it's better for him to play SF instead of SG.
Some nights it's good, some night it's bad. His jumper is streaky, but he's 19 and has a lot of time to work on making it consistent. He was 3-5 from downtown in this game: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/CWlwrMKNpNs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> As you can see, his form is good. And please excuse the Heat's announcers' bad pronunciation of his last name.
lol @ KD Potential. KD came into this league, granted on a **** team, averaging 20ppg. KD's at whole other stratosphere to this guy offensively. This guy has potential to be a suped up Nicolas Batum.
(I'm NOT saying he'll be KG good) I'm getting a Garnett-like feel of Giannis now, similar feel of watching Garnett in his rookie year: Very raw teen player in a small market northern city; Sensing the raw physical ability alone has effect on the court even without a polished game; Not developed fully where he can be counted on yet, but can see in him the drive to play the game and make himself fit in the other areas - he WANTS it and isnt too wide-eyed of the big stage, that counts for something If he even develops half the leadership and defensive skill of Garnett, yeah too bad Rockets weren't in position this year to consider him. (Hopefully Giannis doesnt turn into a Shaun Livingston story either) *Update* Yes I realized i said the same thing on page 1 of this thread http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=8339903&postcount=10
Basically this. He might have Durant "potential", but LOL @ anyone thinking he will amount to Durant. I'll believe it when I see it. Durant was miles and miles ahead of him when he was at the same age.
He may be no KD, but he is physically very comparable. They are both 6'10 and have very similar wingspans. He is no where near KD's level obviously, and probably never will be, but he looks more like KD then any other player who has entered the league the past 2 years
His height might be the same as KD but that's about it. I like Giannis a lot and hope he does well but he will never be compared to KD skill wise.
Your correct and your not because at this point in time if u add the defensive end, Paul George is really close to the kd level at this point. And Paul George started very similier to this guy and has just shot through the roof with his improvement year by year. So u add this guys defensive potential he has a shot getting to that type of level the same way George has.
George is not close to KD at all... I think George, whiles a terrific player, is way overrated at this stage. He had a tremendous start to the season but some of his numbers were not sustainable at all (He was shooting 40% from 3). In the last 10 games. George is only shoot 42% FG for 19 points a game, and only 34% FG for 16.5 points so far in January (6 games). His defense is good, but he has tremendous help by playing in a defensive oriented system and being backed by the best defender in the league (Hibbert). KD is on another level, and KD actually maintains his freakish scoring percentage and efficiency (career 38% 3 point shooter, and shooting near 40% in his last 2 seasons).
Drew was playing him at SF for the two games prior to last night's, with very little success. His best production has been at SG thus far.
