I think most people would find it difficult to want to contribute financially when they feel that things are not run fairly or impartially.

A place where people feel they or others are personally insulted and denigrated for having an opinion that does not tie in with the established ideal. When people are grouped en-masse and their opinions dismissed out right.

I think most people come here wanting to be part of something only to be received with anything but graciousness. There is a lot to be said for people who put in the time and effort to run and build a community forum like this, and they deserve a lot of plaudits for that. However, that is not to say that things could not be a whole lot better.

I don't want to go on an endless rant about how people become fans of teams over a long period of time. To me the hypocrisy of people who claim to only be 'true rockets' fans' is more startling, because they claim to be holding up this beacon of truth and objectivity and because they seem to think it is a flame they must closely guard from the hordes of the so called ignorant fanatics.

Ultimately it is the responsibility of those who claim to be 'better' to lead by example.

That's interesting. I started posting here in 2013. I weighed in on Lin topics just like everyone else. I've been critical of players not named Lin. I've also given him credit when he plays well. I don't feel like I'm being treated unfairly. In fact I've felt quite welcome here. Someone called me a LOF once when I made a less than obvious hyperbole joke, but aside from that I think things are on par here. As a baseline comparison, can you imagine how some of these topics and posts would be treated if they were spoken at a Rockets watch party? Or even a sports bar? How about at the game itself? Rockets venues. Rockets fan site. See where I'm going?

The biggest problem I see is that some opinions and posts are based primarily on emotion and less on basketball. I'm not calling out names because, frankly I think some of those people have been banned. But when you let emotion dictate what you write it's going to end badly. If you were to rate this "group" you reference on a scale of 1-10 based on "LOF-ness" I bet you'd find that the severe folks, the 10s, get ignore and/or banned. But those bad apples are indeed spoiling the bunch. You have to admit some posts are so far beyond the realm of ridiculous it's past even trolling level silly. And I've seen rational Lin fans get blasted and repped on the same day, depending on when and where they posted.

This may not be the definition of fair but it's not specific to this forum. That's life. If my department makes a giant mistake and costs my company a million dollar loss, how well I did MY job is insignificant in the grand scheme.

As for your "True Rockets Fans" comment. Well, I think we all know what that really means. People that were fans of a team and have struggled with them through the thick and thin have little tolerance for "newer" fans suddenly showing up and throwing negative comments around. It's like family. You can fight with your sister your entire life but the moment someone outside the family calls her a w**** they're going to get a beat down. Those long timers feel like a family. Things like that don't happen overnight.

The sense of entitlement of some "true rockets fans" is laughable. Does being a true rockets fan make you a better human being? Does being a true rockets fan make your opinions all correct? Or does being a true rockets fan make your opinion affect the team in some way?

So let me get this straight.

You and your kind, IE, those who put Jeremy above the team and strive for his own personal success over that of the team, come to our forum, **** on the Rockets, Morey, Les, Beverley, Asik, Harden, Brooks, the mods, the Rockets fans, and so on and so forth and yet you expect us Rockets fans; those who put team success above all others to treat you as some sort of equal. And you expect the moderators to protect you and set examples of fairness of discussion because you have been lumped in with a group of people.

Things are fair here....for Rockets fans. Fairness is knowing that if someone posts something stupid, they are going to get blasted for it and someone posts something interesting or in depth, they will be praised for it no matter which player it represents.

I advise you to read the post quoted below which is the post of the year IMHO.

Do you realize? When you start with "You and your...", all your arguments, no matter how valid, are dramatically weakened. You don't have to disagree with others. But pls. Be respectful. The world is full of all "kind" of people  with all "kinds" of oppinions . If everyone is exactly alike on everything, the world be extremely boring:grin:

Thanks for the kind words. Ditto to Larsv8. I think I've been reading here long enough to get a good feel for who's who so I try to ignore the folks that are beyond reason, but occasionally I have to toss in my two cents.

One thing I forgot to add on the previous post. For those who view Clutch and the other admins as Nazi type ban hammers with some sort of agenda I'd suggest trying to put yourselves in their shoes for a month or so. It's easy to say things like, "I'd let everyone say what they want" or "I won't moderate discussions to be fair". It's another thing entirely to put that into practice. If you've ever been in a non-moderated chat room or forum you'll know exactly what I mean.

In this case the poster is addressing the portion of the forum that he defines as caring little for team success and only rooting for Lin's success. He's just setting the parameters of an audience. If the people reading his post fall into that group I'd say it's entirely accurate. If you don't fall into that group, you're not part of his defined audience and his comments don't apply to you.

Don't read between the lines. He didn't mention anything like race, political views or even those LO* terms everyone loves.

Lol I started in this forum hating lin based on the knowledge of our forum "elders". But since watching the games he play so far. He has proven to be otherwise. My thoughts so far is that he treated unfairly on a tight lease by the elders in this forum. How can he thrive? This system just sucks for him. Let's trade his arse out the rockets along with asik out of respect for them. Be done with it . But lol we are stuck with him , because of his contract. Why can't mchale just pump his stats up and play to lin's strengths . It would be easier to trade him after that. We did it for lol tony Douglas!

Because that wouldn't be in the best interest of the rockets, and thus McHale's job.

Agreed that it is the over the top instigators that get banned. But all Lin fans seem to eventually end up in that category unless they are Rockets first fans. Just reading the threads it's obvious most of the vocal Lin first fans are gone.

That's not entirely true. The poster you quoted used words like "over the top" when he described posters. That, to me, means stuff like, "Harden sucks, Lin needs to shoot all the time" or "Fire McFail, he's killing Lin's career". You can be vocal without being "over the top". I've seen many pro Lin posters, some even admittedly Lin first fans. They're vocal but rational and I've had good discussions with them.

However, where you end up is ultimately up to you. No one else can control what you type before you hit "submit".

I'm not into labeling people but the grammar you used in this post makes it seem like Jeremy's success is pretty important to you. I'd counter that the teams success is most important. If Harden started scoring 15 a game and we won 10 straight would you feel the same way? Would you advocate trading Harden because he's being misused?

As for the respect part, this is a business. Coaches are paid to win games. Players are paid to perform. Asik was a favorite of mine all last year but his act this year (even though he's injured) has soured me a bit.

And my point has been -- and continues to be -- that you have to stop playing the victim at some point and acknowledge that it goes both ways. I have been personally insulted countless times on this board by Lin fans, not because I said anything negative about him, but because Beverley is my favorite player. I laugh, I brush it off, and I keep moving. I'm not going to let it stop me from posting here, and I'm certainly not going to let it stop me from being a fan of the team. A lot of people around here would find the site more enjoyable if they could learn to ignore the outlying crazies -- take the intelligent dialogue, the respectful debates, and the inside info... and discard the rest.

As for rep, you're entitled to feel that way. I'm just saying that you can't simultaneously (1) decide you aren't going to contribute to the upkeep of the site you post on every day (thus, depriving yourself of rep privileges), and (2) complain about what you feel is inequitable rep distribution. That's all.

You know what I don't like about the reps? The anonymous messages. I've got a couple of them where they insult me and there is even one with some sort of threat... I hope that they will change the anonymity of the people giving reps...

Eh, no big deal. This happened to me yesterday for the first time since I've been on here. Got a rep that said "you're r****ded" or something to that effect. Not sure why they'd "rep" me if they think I'm r****ded, but whatever.
