Rubio can be a really good player. If you cut down on his long range 2s, and force him to just shoot 3s or attack the rim, his average will come back up. If he works on this for 2 straight summers and is the focus of his season, there is no reason why he can't get his FG% up to 40-43%. He is already shooting 34% from 3s.

You can't just give up on a talent like this. He is great at getting teammates involved and is great at defense. All he needs to do right now is learn how to shoot better.

    Jason Kidd part 2.

He can't finish in the lane though. Thats the major distinction between say him and Rondo. Rondo is an elite finisher while Rubio is not.

Honestly it sounds like Beverly is Rubio minus the passing ability but makes up for it with at least an ability to get hot and hit open 3s. Why would we trade anything more than a second rounder for Rubio? How can any perimeter player have spent 4 seasons in the league and not developed a passable jump shot? I mean seriously, shooting is the one skill that can be taught and learned. 4 years...and not one single improvment.

dude...imagine if Asik actually played again for us. Can you imagine a lineup with Rubio, Asik, and Dwight? a quarter would take 3 hours to play.

If you think that's the only difference between Bev and Rubio then I don't know what to tell you

No I feel the same way. Well not everytime but mostly. One of the worst games I remember was when old man Derek Fisher lit him up and took him to school (good D?!?). Yet it was crickets in that Ricky and Rick in Minny thread.

Rubio is fools gold to the nth degree. He cannot finish in the lane, is a historically bad shooter and while I think he is a good defender he isn't nearly as disruptive/effective as its made out to be.

This is hilarious. He can't even shoot 43% at the rim alone, yet if he eliminates the his midrange shots his FG% will rise that much?

Rubio simply won't ever be even an average player in the NBA. Love carries him offensively to such an absurd degree. The Timberwolves would be near-tops offensively in the league with an average starting point guard.

Your assumption was correct. Rubio shot 18.2% for the 4th quarter for the season.

    Just awful!

No thanks. Rubio doesn't really fit in an offensive team like the Rockets (or the Wolves for that matter), but he will excel in a JVG-coached team.

Weird, I'd think the opposite. Just like Jason Williams excelled with Adelman, you'd expect Rubio to fit with Rick, as well, who can coach a free style offense. JVG is ball control (borrowing from football terminology). I actually thought Rubio is a big reason Adelman took the job.

Has anyone heard any comments about Rubio from JVG? I'm curious.

Rubio's shortcomings are similar to VSpan's as a rookie. JVG doesn't like TOs and overplaying the lane on defense. I would think, like VSpan, JVG would not be interested in the occassional fancy pass enough to start Rubio over Rafer, who is a better example of a ball control-offense PG.

Rubio is one of the most overrated players ever!!! he's horrible.. even though he doesnt get credit for it but Lin is a better PG than Rubio

i reallly dont understand the fascination and hype Rubio gets.. why do people consider him so special.. he seems like one of the WORST starting PG's in the league.. like another poster siad.. Bev might be more valuable than him right now..

He doesn't fit an offensive team like the Wolves? They are the #2 scoring team in the league with him running the offense. Does it really matter that he's not scoring the points? Their offense is very good with him running the point and Rubio does a great job of making sure that all of his teammates get good looks. I'd love to see Rubio getting Dwight Howard some easy shots.

They are near-top offensively in the league when Rubio plays.

He needs to deveop a 3pt shot, and just be nothing besides a 3pt spot up shooter when it comes to points.

He can play very good defense and is an excellent facilitator.

Would take him in a heartbeat, and hope we would force him to get his 3pt shot down. Get him to a 37-38% from 3 and make most of his attempts 3s or FTs/layups/dunks. No jumpers.

Ricky Rubio is a ball-dominant PG. He needs more than just a 3-point shot. If he played off the ball next to a superstar SG or SF that created for him, a 3-point shot and good defense would be just fine.

Because he dominates the ball and dribbles all over the place, Rubio must get better at finishing in the paint and at the rim along with sticking the elbow-jumper late in games. He doesn't have to shoot like Steve Nash or CP3, but he can't remain terrible at it.
