In a discussion of whether to take Johnny or Teddy, he was asked why he thought a Teddy was the safe pick. The second thing on his list was that Teddy lives/breathes football. This is another way of saying that he is dedicated to football. Given the nature of the discussion, the natural inference is that his list is what sets Teddy apart from Johnny. Therefore, he believes that Teddy being dedicated to football and Johnny not being dedicated makes Teddy a safer pick than Johnny.
Cam Newton and Kapernick both came out of the same draft. Neither played in a pro style offense nor ran the offense but both are playing today in the playoffs and running their offense. I don't deny what Teddy did in college _ I just don't deny the fact what a player does in college (particularly a quarterback) does not guarantee success in the pros.
And how do you know Johnny doesn't lives/breathes football and is dedicated to the sport...? Teddy is a smart kid and has a lot going for him besides football. If he didn't want to be a football player _ he has a lot of other things he can do with his life. If it wasn't for rich parents and football, Johnny might be working at a gas station. Football is all that dude has... IMO.
Totally irrelevant to the thread, but... The vast majority of college kids dont have rich parents and dont have football...you're not destined for a gas station job just because you dont have those two elements working for you. Back on topic, as far as dedication is concerned, I think it's easy to see that Johnny has a life outside football and assume that he doesnt really care about the sport. However, I think he's the perfect example of a guy that has the "see, I told you so" attitude. He might like to have a good time in his personal life, but he is 100% football when the time comes to get after it. He's out to prove people wrong every time he steps on the field.
Safe being a relative term here. With that said, if you think Bridgewater has a greater chance to bust than Manziel, then we'll drop the debate there. There is no debating that. Bridgewater, by all indications, ran an NFL-type offense with more responsibilities than some NFL quarterbacks (look no further than Reliant Stadium), and he ran it well. What he displayed from a pure passing standpoint was also much greater than Manziel, and I believe there is no debating that, either. From a play-making standpoint, Manziel probably has the upper hand. But, as I said, from a passing standpoint, no debating it. This brings about my label of Bridgewater being the safer pick. He's proven that he can stand in the pocket, under duress, and make some NFL caliber throws. The only real question with him is size. Something easily fixed. As I've said before, Bridgewater compares very closely to Aaron Rodgers in college. I'm not saying there's no chance he will bust, but there is very little. Less than any quarterback taken in the last five years or so not named Luck. As for Manziel, and per my previous post, there is a lot about his game he must change to succeed in the NFL. I've already posted them in the previous post, so I won't do it again. I'm going to highlight the fact that he relies heavily on his athleticism in college. That's something he will not be able to always do in the NFL. It's not a question of dedication. Clearly, Manziel works on his game in the off-season, but as a pure quarterback, Teddy is years ahead of him on crucial aspects. And I'm not claiming to know that Teddy is the safe bet, I'm just using the facts from the tape to determine my opinion. I can almost guarantee you that if you posed this same question to ten NFL scouts, 8 out of 10 would agree. If not more.
I was just giving my opinion on specifically Johnny and Teddy. Not college kids in general. And sure it's irrelevant but so is 99% of the stuff people post on this board. You're only assuming Teddy doesn't have a life outside of football because cameras aren't following him everywhere he goes. Johnny is a celebrity Teddy isn't so we hear a lot more of what Johnny does in his personal time.
Living and breathing football is different than being dedicated to football. Manziel clearly has lots of other interests and very openly enjoys and pursues the celebrity of it all. Nothing wrong with that, but it's different than being a person that is just obsessed with the game itself.
Uh No bro. Thinking in to my comment a little too much. I have stated several times that I think Manziel would not be a bad pick at number one. I will put it in basketball terms right now for the Clutchfan members Teddy Bridgewater is Chandler Parsons. Good at everything, yet has no excellent intangibles in regards to arm strength/speed(although I believe this kid is as intelligent as they come). Teddy has the ability to be Durant though if he works on his craft. Manziel is Terrance Jones. Has a ton of good things going for him, (scrambling ability, better arm than he is given credit for, elite ability to create)but he isn't a finished product. He has potential to be Lebron. Manziel's ceiling is absolutely higher than Teddy's. But if I was a betting man, I would go with Teddy having a better career when it is all said and done.
Johnny may be a bit of a loose cannon, but I think the guy is very intelligent. I heard where he scored something like a 1550 on his SAT. I think Johnny might be a football genius. Johnny doesn't seem to be consumed with football 24/7. I don't think he has to be, that's how good he is.
won't be mad if we take TB or Manziel. Even if Manziel flames out, at least he would be interesting. Unless he can't stay upright, then it's a total waste.
Johnny wants the spotlight, and that is obvious. Does that mean that he isn't dedicated? Not at all. But with Manziel you worry what he would rather have? The fame or being a good football player? Is he Johnny Ringo? Teddy inputs game plans in to his XBOX and seems to hate the spotlight. His coach publically loves him.Does that make Teddy better? Nope
I was the one arguing that Johnny is dedicated to the sport and used his offseason work with a QB guru as an example.
Didn't mean to make it out like Johnny was stupid. It's just this argument that people make that Teddy is more dedicated to football than Johnny is ridiculous because they're just basing their opinions off TMZ reports. Now if they want to bring up Teddy probably doesn't party as much or go out as much as Johnny _ okay. But that has nothing to do with the dedication either one has to their craft.
Johnny loves to enjoy life and all that his celebrity brings. He also is fiercely competitive and loves to win. He has that fire in his belly, and I think that is a positive.
And how is it obvious that Johnny wants the spotlight...??? Explain that please. Because it's not his fault that Drake, LeBron, etc want to be around him. And it's not his fault that ESPN can't keep him out of rotation. But understand to have the spotlight you have to perform on the field. Isn't that what Johnny does...?
No denying that he is competitive. It is a quality that can make him great. I think he "could" be the best qb in the league in 5 years. He could also be out of the league in 5 years. It could go both ways.
You are borderline annoying at this point. Money gestures after TD's, always in the media/dealing with scandals. He could very well disappear, but he chooses to keep popping up. Bridgewater is equally talented and regarded as possibly even more superior QB prospect, and you don't hear a peep out of the guy.
No. No. No. Texans would well...be the Texans if they drafted him and it wouldn't even surprise me. Bridgewater is the logical and most obvious choice.
Aaron Rodgers does the discount double check gesture. Cam does a superman and Kap kisses his bicep. You still don't make a "FOOTBALL" point. Just pointing out things you see but don't like. And maybe Teddy will be better on the pro level _ you just haven't made a point on why he will be.
