Landry's offensive game was much nicer. He had the knack for when to go up for put backs and shoot the jumper (which he developed nicely), but he couldn't really rebound..
TJ has a high ceiling, only problem is his immaturity and his reactions after a good play. Calm down and show some professionalism.
Funny thing is Landry was older when we drafted him than Jones is now. Personally I thought Carl could do it all, but I think Jones' ceiling is higher; and he's a better defender. Gonna be interesting to see how good TJones is in 3 years.
I agree. Problem with Jones is his bball IQ is really low sometimes though. I'm still on edge when he tries to run the break because he commits the turnover more often than not. Hopefully he can develop into a nice player we have coming off the bench, because unless he can develop a consistent jumper and play smart, he can't really start along side Howard.
Josh Smith was extremely quick though when he was TJ's age. Shawn Marion and Robert Horry were both all NBA caliber defenders as well. Jones just isn't quick enough laterally to stay in front of people on the perimeter. I think he'll be much more of an inside player than those guys, not because he can't shoot the 3, but because he has the potential to be a huge post up threat in his later years in the league. I definitely think near all star caliber. If some team gives this guy 35+ minutes a night and he average 15/12/3 and makes an all star team, it wouldn't surprise me. At the very worst he will be an extremely solid 2 way player, at best, he could be the third option on a championship team.
Basketball IQ? Well he just turned 22, so I think he will continue to become a smarter player. Turnovers? He averages less than one turnover per game playing almost 27 minutes. Turnovers are not a problem for TJones.
Doesn't have anything to do with his IQ, it's all about focus and discipline. He needs to stay away from the three point line and do what he does best, rebounding and blocking. Everything else will fall in place over the next couple of years.
Not to mention that if he continues to.work at it he can become a better threat from the 3 point line as well bc then he can use that threat do blow by other 4s trying to.close in on him
He's one of the few bright spots on this team, he works well with Dwight, and he has saved our asses in several games. Of all people, why trade him?
I don't think he necessarily even wants to shoot 3 pt shots, but that's what the Rockets offense is all about. Spreading the floor and taking the open shot when you have it. Luckily, Jones has the ability to drive to the basket, and that has served him well. I can see where he may be able to improve his shooting over time. His overall game has already come a long way.
Unless we can get back Love, Aldridge, or Bosh, I would keep TJ. He just needs playing time to gain consistency and will only get better as he matures. If he can become 38% - 40% from behind the arc and develop a 10 - 15 ft mid range shot, he would be perfect for our team. This team is not going to win it all this year so there is absolutely no reason why we can't let TJ grow for a year. If he works on his game in the off season(3 pt & mid range) he could become a borderline all star.
Sometimes I think people forget that Terrence Jones is 22 years old and has yet to play a full season of NBA basketball. He is only going to get better with time. Trading him at this point would be a huge mistake.
I do remember it ans has mentioned it in my post. The fact that he is 22 and will likely get better with time is what makes him a valuable trade piece in the first place. If Jones was 26 years old in his 5th season he wouldn't be the same trade asset. The question isn't whether we like Jones or not. It is is whether the team's best option is to make Dwight Howard and James Harden wait for Jones to improve or trade for someone who is already there.
what is this obession to trade a player to get a shiny new player? Let him develop and see where it goes. He doesnt need to be an elite PF on this team, but i can see him being close to or all-star level down the line.
Why do you want to make Dwight Howard spend a few years, even one year, of what's left of his prime waiting for Terrence Jones to get better?
As a fan! I support my Rockets team!!! Especially the development of our talented, up & coming Forwards Terry Jones & Chandler Parsons. Sometimes some fans seem to forget that we are still in the development stage and the Team Manager has several future moves to round out the team. Rome was not built in a day, nor in a single season. Most believe the development of Jones and Parson will play vital roles as a players in Rockets Red! Y
Who's your target anyway? I don't think anyone would object trading Jones as part of a package to get a star. Which non-star player do you trade Jones for that's also available?
