Do you like the move to let Wade Phillips go and hire Romeo Crennel as new DC?

Crennel would probably want the Assistant Head Coach title. (Could give Coach BOB the tiniest of home life's )

So let me get this straight, he makes 3.4 million if he works or not, it's just how much of that he collects from the Texans if he does work?

I think Wade's time here was done, but I'm not a Crennel fan. I guess I need to trust BOB for now and see

Glad to hear this... Hopefully there might be some starting caliber players Romeo might see there that can be drafted in later rounds that can help the Texans. They can't have a draft like they did last year.

My understanding is that it is actually negotiated as part of the contract. If there is "offset language" the Chiefs pay the HC contract amount less his Texans' salary. If RAC had a really good agent who removed the offset language, the Chiefs have to pay his full salary AND he gets to keep his Texans' contract on top of that.

I remember when the Texans fired Dom Capers he had some contract stipulation that if he landed a Coordinator job, they were off the hook for his salary so the Dolphins called him special assistant or something.

Not that it bothers me, but why does Crennel even bother with this not making a decision yet because he is committed to the east/west shrine game? Who cares about the east/west shrine game? it is totally meaningless and doesn't require any commitment at all.

Because from what I've heard, current NFL coaches are not allowed to coach that game. He agreed to coach that game long ago so they're putting off his official hire so he can keep his commitment to coach that game without breaking that rule.

Honestly, I'm not sure why everybody is hung up on Romeo's contract, and whether or not the Chiefs will pay him as well.

If he's coaching the Texans, who cares if he's getting paid by KC, getting paid on top of his Texans contract by KC, or just getting paid by the Texans?

I think it was more an issue before he took the job. There seems to have been a concern that signing with the Texans would void what KC owed him, providing financial disincentive to sign a presumably smaller coordinator's contract.

For me, I just think that the way thing work is interesting.

    http://www.shrinegame.com/MediaHub/90_Make_NFL_Draft.aspx

"over 90 of this year’s players headed to NFL training camps. Thirty-seven players from the 2012 East-West Shrine Game were drafted by 23 different NFL teams over the seven rounds of this year’s Draft. As of April 30, another 56 players were signed to NFL teams as free agents."

there is good talent there, could help with late round finds.

I don't know about next years team, but the Texans may have the best coaching staff from top to bottom.

I'm not super excited honestly. I think he is too old for the modern game and I don't like that most of these hires are just Bills buds

O'Brien and Crennel had not met until Wednesday. Never coached together.

I realize that, but all the other hires seem to be from buddies.

And hiring Crennel wasn't a big stretch for him. He is still someone that bill and his peers must be quite familiar with and come from the same coaching lineage.

Isn't that how jobs work? You get info on people. You learn about their positives and negatives, and you hear from people you trust (i.e. people you've worked with that also know the person)
