James Harden played good defense on Paul Millsap last night to close the game out and he couldn't score. I know his advanced stats look nice so don't get me wrong, I'd be ecstatic if we traded Asik and something else for him, but I'm not so sure he is worth our two best tradeable assets.
Milsap would be another player that can score in multiple ways. He can put the ball on the floor and attack, he moves without the ball, and he can hit the 12-15 footer for pick and pop plays. I like T Jones, but he is not a threat. We need another solid vet player in the rotation. I can't wait to see who we can get for Asik.
I would like to see if we can trade Asik and Lin somehow for Hinrich and Millsap. For me, that is the next best thing beyond the pipe dream of Love/Harford/Aldrige.
Wait, Terrence Jones is HIGH?!! First he kicks a homeless man, now this......YES, WE NEED TO TRADE HIM!!!
I'd give up on the Aldridge/Horford/Love dream. Virtually zero chance of those happening. I just can't see how people think we have the assets for a deal like that.
Seriously, if I'm Morey, outside of Howard, Harden, Parsons, Beverly and Terrence Jones, I make everyone else expendable. I keep Beverly largely because of what he brings...toughness, defense and a good, not great jump shot. Also, with him, Parsons and Jones, you have players who do not command large contracts. Lin, Asik, Smith, Garcia, Casspi, Brooks, everyone else is tradable. I would bring in players who are athletic, who can shoot, same thing the Lakers did with Shaq and Kobe.....no Chuck Hayes, Luther Head, Aaron Brooks types!!!
You are right BUT I'm even more concern that Daryl Morey does not know how to build a bench. I realize after he got Howard, the market was thin but Casspi, Brewer and Brooks???? I could've lived with James Johnson, Garcia (the way he played last year), Xavier Henry (even though he's hurt right now) and Maurice Speights. To me, I think Morey is missing the boat severely on role players.
Hey I did say it was a pipe dream. I always figured if I am dreaming, I should dream big. As for assets, DM can get assets if he feels we have a chance. There is also the possibility of bringing in other teams. Worse trades have happened before, such as the Pau Gasol trade so knowing Morey, who knows? Don't get me wrong, I would love Millsap. However, I just can't let go of the dream of someone like Aldridge or Love on our team. It's like dreaming of that super expensive and awesome sports car that you will never realistically buy.
We are only 3 years into rebuilding and by any logical/reasonable expectations, far ahead of schedule. Morey is good, but it seems you need to temper your expectations a tad bit.
That would be ideal of course...but I don't think they will trade him to us. He's going to the lakers anyways.
I see you don't get it either! People said the same thing about T-Mac and Yao. You can't say when either Howard or Harden will slow down or get hurt. Harden plays wreckless and Howard has been playing extensive minutes since he was 18 or 19 yrs old. YOU CAN'T CONTINUE TO SAY WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR!!! Morey is searching for Battier type players, we need players who are athletic w/length.
Let me ask you again, what other team has rebuilt faster than us given the lack of resources Morey was burdened with (Yao and T-Mac's corpses and never a single high draft pick)? I also hate the asinine argument people make about squandering away T-Mac and Yao. Let's get one thing straight, if DM had been our GM when we actually landed the both of them, we would probably have made it to the finals at least once. CD surrounded the two with mostly garbage, though that is still no excuse of not at least getting past the first round. I can continue preaching patience for this season because is the TRUTH. DM got rid of most our depth in order to position us to either trade for Dwight or sign him outright. We did the latter and given what we had left, I feel DM has done an amazing job enlisting players like Casspi, Garcia, and AB to come play on vet mins for a team just getting out of rebuilding.
We only had the minimum to offer. Of the 3 on your wishlist, we actually got one of them, for the minimum. We also picked up James Johnson, via the DLeague team. He was pretty good there, but he's a tweener who can't shoot, and is too slow to play the 3. Speights got $3.5m per season, for 3 years. On vet minimums, Casspi, Brooks and Brewer are all 'gambles'. You see if any of them pan out, if none of them do, you've lost nothing, and move on to the next 'gamble' on a minimum contract. There was nothing to lose with those guys. Depth was always going to be an issue going into this season, we're not built to handle any injuries, and are currently dealing with 2 starters being out, and a starter quality player sulking on the sidelines. That's a LOT to be missing for a thin team. You can't fix a thin team with the vet minimum. Hopefully we can parlay Asik into 2 rotation level players.
TJ is a mediocre PF. He just seems like an upgrade. He could be good sometime in the future, but not yet.
If Jones gets traded, we better bring back a hell of a player. Between Lin/Jones/Asik, we should have enough for a superstar.
I agree knote. Jones can do a bit of everything for us, and has room to grow. All we need us for asik to be moved for a rotation quality big.
