I just remember how much Ryan Leaf and Jomarcus Russell were hyped coming out of college. Big, strong, could make all the throws, etc. Scary.
Feels a little like the Manning vs. Leaf debate. The smart QB is always the better pick in that debate.
A lot of people on Clutchfans like to deny the impact that behavioral issues can have on the game.... but Ryan Leaf definitely had red flags.
Anyone supporting this Bortles kid is banking on the "I told you so" or "Called it" factor. I don't know much about him but as I always do, I'll let the professionals make their decision.
You guys know that all these people hyping up Bortles and other QBs get paid for it..right? Teddy is the logical choice..He will go #1..

I don't see the point of anyone being sure of what the Texans do. It will be fun to for me to follow the team no matter what direction they go with the pick. But I will be following Bridgewater's and Manziel's careers no matter where they go.
I could understand Manziel. I could understand Clowney or Barr. I could understand a trade. Those wouldn't be my preference but I wouldn't b**** too hard about them. But I wouldn't be able to understand Bortles. That would draw the biggest WTF?!?!? reaction from me.
Well, it's along time till the draft so if the Texans do draft Bortles the shock factor should be to a minimum.
If BOB decides to trade down or draft another player I will give him the benefit of the doubt. He has worked with elite quarterbacks and knows better than I. You don't hire BOB unless you have confidence he knows what he is doing. Now, if in 3 years from now he has blown 3 drafts then the confidence may have eroded, but we are not in that situation.
OK. Poor choice of words on my part. And while we are at it, Bortles has produced at UCF. But the point stands. When scouts talk about QB'S like they are cattle that they are breeding, obsessing about physical characteristics, draft busts follow.
No one knows who the Texans are going to select, not even the Texans. They might have an inkling, but nothing will be set in stone until after the combine. My hunch is that they don't trade down, play it safe, and draft either Bridgewater, Manziel, or Bortles, probably Manziel, because he's local, he's exciting to watch, and the media can't get enough of him. But if they draft Bridgewater or Bortles, I won't be surprised.
As good as clowney is, just a good qb (let alone elite) is going to have much more impact on a team. Texans are going to take bridgewater. No inside info, I just feel that is the most likely scenario. From everything I've gathered, it seems like a no brainer.
I think the scouts tend to muck up the more athletic positions like defensive line, line backers and running backs. For some reason teams overlook game tape on those positions and look more towards potential and body shape. More busts happen at QB (and WR) because it is a hard position to predict success and teams draft them in order of need more than any other position.
For those looking to quote these rules (texx), going by his rules you'd be choosing from guys like Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow, Dan LeFevour, and Zac Robinson.....you also wouldn't be able to take guys like Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, or Cam Newton. Bill Parcells in his career drafted Drew Bledsoe and Chad Pennington fyi.....these "rules" aren't quite gospel.... just sayin'....
Listen to Bridgewater interviews and tell me he's smart. I promise you he will have a lower wonderlic than Bortles or Manziel. I was super sold on him until I listened to him. He sounds really dumb, really awkward, and really weird. Dish towel level charisma. Maybe he's football rainman or something if he's as capable of line of scrimmage changes as his coaches say.
A 21 year old isn't comfortable in front of a camera and you came to the conclusion he's dumb...great logic
