Teddy threw 31 touchdowns to 4 interceptions. 2 of which were balls that went off the receivers hands first. Johnny threw 14 picks this year.
He's the first person since the merger that has thrown for over 1700 yards and not won a game. I like keenum and all, but there is something to be said for not a single win. And dont go giving me that Kubiak tried to set him up to fail, because that is a load of crap.
Bridgewater is CLEARLY the best QB prospect. If the Texans don't take him because of Bortles or Manziel, then the Texans front office would officially be the worst front office in the whole damn league.
I guess NFL scouts with "decades of experience" told the Texans to draft David Carr. What's your point? Scouts with "decades of experience" are never disastrously dead wrong? I hope not.
i swear i just shake my head in disgusts everytime i hear a bortles over teddy argument.. seems like eveyone was so against taking a qb #1 because there wasnt a "clear cut #1" when teddy was the qb taken.. doesnt seem to be as much resistance with bortles being a #1... ugh, the thought of bortles going #1 to us is just depressing..
My point was that it's an alarmist comment. We haven't even had the combine or pro days yet. They haven't even evaluated tape yet. There's no way to say with a certainty that draft Bortles over Teddy is a mistake that proves we are the worst franchise in the nfl. We have a lot of new guys who will be weighing in on this decision. I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt without casting uninformed and extreme assertions as to their competence with regard to drafting a particular player. ....that's my point.
The combine is what? A bunch of guys running around in shorts? Everyone can play with shorts. The point of this thread is to debate.
Yes I understand. But how does saying that if we draft anyone but Teddy Bridgewater we are the worst franchise in the league, contribute to the debate?. It's a ridiculous comment. Clearly there is a love for Teddy on this board that overshadows objectivity or measured/reasonable comments. For the record, I like all 3 of the top rated QBs, but trust BOB to get this pick right....regardless of whether or not we draft Teddy.
you do know Marink threw 17tds and 23picks his senior year, Elway had 12 picks, stats are really somewhat irrelevant when it pertains QBs transitioning from college to the NFL
Then call it a ridiculous comment and move on. Tossing out the worthless "management has experience" argument contributes nothing to the debate either. There is no reason to even say it, especially when there is an ocean of "experienced scouts" working in the NFL and yet many teams are awful at evaluating talent. That's why there are several draft busts every year along with surprises. You go right ahead and trust the Texans to get it right. After all these years, I don't. They can't afford to blow this one. I'm hoping for the best.
I'm sure the tape is being broke down as we speak and they may have an idea of who they want before the combine as far as the quaterbacks are concerned if they are going to draft one with the #1 overall pick. Clowney is the player the combine may can help the most.
I doubt that. He's already considered to be a freak athlete. His question marks are in areas that can't be measured in 40 times and bench presses. Namely, (lack of) production this season and (lack of) maturity. The combine won't change those.
That's because most QBs don't have that long of a leash if the team isn't winning. Keenum started 8 games and threw for 1,760 yards. In 2008, Dan Orlovsky started 7 games for the Lions and threw for 1,616 yards. Both teams were bad, QBs included.
BOB was just hired a week and a half ago. It's not the same ol' regime. But I do wish Rick Smith was gone.
I've gone on record being ok with Manziel or Teddy. Honestly, the Bortles talk is baffling to me, because all of the scouts have said that Bortles is going to take some time to even just catch up with Bridge and JFF. As a fan, do you want to wait two or three years to see if so and so is going to be that guy? Is Bortles as good as Teddy or JFF? Absolutely not. What freaks me out more is the fact that Bortles was a 4-5th round prospect 2 months ago. The drafting anyone but Bridgewater debate makes this franchise the worst debate is comical though. I think we all would have learned what happened when the Texans passed Fairley for JJ WATT. I can see what there is to love about JFF and Birdwater. They both have potential to be great, and already seem like they have the ability to win games off the bat in the NFL. If the Texans take one of the two, I think they will be headed in the right direction. Potential Manziel>Bridgewater Safer Bet Bridgewater>>>>Manziel
