You are the one who insinuated that their win-loss record reflected on their coaching. They are a 50-win team, as indicated by their scoring margin. They actually over-performed statistically, which ranked them as 9th best team in the league. It's not really a clear cut to discredit for what Adelman had done just by record alone. Edit: Warriors and Rockets have a virtual tie in the standing. This is not a case where grass is greener on the other side. If Rockets have the similar stats as Warriors, I would be more than happy with McHale. As of now, Warriors are more legit championship team than the Rockets. They have the 3rd best defensive efficiency while Rockets ranked 18th. Any team who ranks outside of top 10 in defense has no chance of winning. How can anyone not feeling disappointed with Rockets current regression to the mediocrity??
Woodson can be a better coach than McHale! I watched the 4th q of NYK win vs. Heat. Geez, they didn't play their usual iso ball for Melo and JR at all. Melo is both willing and able to play disciplined sets. They stuck with the 3-man game with Melo, Felton and Amare as the primary set with great success. Simple or double screening, feeding to post to Amare, pick and pop, pick and roll. And everybody get involved including Bargs and Shumpert who received the anticipated passes for outside shots due to defense collapse into the middle. Harden/DH/Lin could definitely do similar sets, i.e. if McHale is capable to teaching them and insisting on them. It'd been much better than no set plays with the excuse name of RnR. Harden would be a lot more efficient this way.
I think most of us recognize the team has had a fairly rough schedule and pretty significant injuries, while simultaneously aware that even a championship squad like the Heat struggled out of the gate when they first came together. Stop being a drama queen. Our next 10 games are much easier competition and our team stats should improve.
That's a lame excuse. Since you brought up Heat as example, I did a little research. Nov 28th, 2010, Heat were 9-8 before they went on a 12-game win streak. On that date, their: Offensive efficiency: 1.064 ppp, ranked 6th Defensive efficiency: 1.001 ppp, ranked 7th Even at their lowest point of the season, statistically they were still a legit contender. Rockets, as of today, ranked 18th in defensive efficiency. If that doesn't cause any concern, then your expectation is truly low for a team who has the best center and SG in the league. Here's another fact: Our remaining strength of schedule (SOS) at 52% will be actually be higher than teams we've already played (51%).
As much as I dislike McHale as our coach, Woodson is not better than him. Woodson is totally clueless in the playoffs. He still holds the record for the biggest point margin of in a playoff series when his 4th seeded Hawks were swept by 3rd seed Magic. Average loss per game? 25.3/game
You are misusing statistics and your argument is not convincing at all. The Heat were also healthy and played in the east against some pretty weak competition. Two of the Rockets best defenders are injured and you placing emphasis on a metric which measures defense. Wtf for? Why don't you run team offensive and defensive efficiency on the games when we are at full strength and look at that number instead of blindly pointing the finger at the coach. It's time to stop accepting stupid arguments on the GARM and start looking at things objectively. Seriously? Regression to mediocrity? This is our ascension to greatness. Be realistic and stop looking for a villain.
So if you don't judge Adelman based on the Wolves' result, do you also not judge McHale based on the Rockets result? What's the deal here? If you don't believe the coach should be responsible for the team's record, why are you in this thread?
When Rockets fans had Rudy T who let Stevie and Cat do whatever they want, Rockets fans wanted to see what a disciplinarian would do with the team instead. They got JVG. Their record next year was basically the same despite another year of development from Yao. Rockets record didn't jump until they got T-Mac. When Rockets had JVG, fans wanted to see what an offensive coach would do to a team that couldn't play offense. The Rockets hired Adelman, a noted offensive guru. Again, the Rockets record did not really change until Morey got in his new guys in, Scola, Landry, Brooks, Lowry, Artest, etc. When Rockets were at the bottom of the NBA in defense under Adelman, fans wanted JVG back again because Adelman would let KMart and CBud play no defense all game long. I've been a fan long enough to see that fans overrate coaching in the NBA probably more than anything else in the game. It is the reason why people say coaches are hired to be fired. Because it's the shiny object that gets all the attention but from a macro standpoint, only a peripheral part of the championship puzzle.
So he's a WAY better COACH than Adelman the last two years right? And Coach Brown was one of the best coach in basketball right?
Do we not have the best center with multiple DPOY awards? Last time I checked Dwight has been playing every game this year. All teams have had their share of injuries. Our strength of schedule is 51%. We haven't had tougher schedule than most of the teams. I like how you discredited stats at your convenient. Nice move! Problem comprehending my posts? If you read my posts carefully, I mostly judged teams/coaches by their advanced metrics, not win-loss record like most people.
Most Rockets fans hate George Karl because he got to the Finals by playing illegal defense, particularly against Hakeem. I still hold a grudge. F that guy...
So are you saying coaching doesn't matter...??? Bringing up coaches who had different circumstances in comparison doesn't give a true gage on McHale. I don't think McHale is a good coach for young players. Maybe a group of veterans. But like I said, it's hard to call for a coach to be fired when the team has a decent record.
How do people come up with such nonsensical conclusions? da fuq!? If a restaurant hired and let go 4 chefs over 10 years, does that mean chefs don't matter? If a company hired and let go 100 salespeople over 10 years, do salespeople not matter to the company? You do know that more than one person can do the same job correctly, right?
It was a rhetorical question dude... And if you noticed I didn't wait for an answer _ I gave you one... Doesn't mean I'm right though. Lol... I just think Morey is being too smart for his own good by having McHale as a coach. Rudy had CD. CD had coaching experience so he was able to mold Rudy and Rudy had an experienced super star and a veteran laced team. Morey does not have coaching experience and McHale is just as green as these players as far as coaching goes. And we see how good Rudy was when he had a young inexperienced team. Howard, Harden, Lin, Asik, etc _ these guys need a psychologist as much as they need a coach. Someone who can get in there heads. That's what Phil was as a head coach, that's what Pop and Doc does. I don't see that with McHale but I could be wrong.
Your wasting your time Remii. They've been proven wrong numerous times in this thread. The only thing they can do is change the subject to attack or nitpick at other coaches. It has already been established and proven as fact that Mchale is not a X's and O's coach by his own words. Nothing else is needed. The Rockets have championship aspirations, it's time to stop playing around and get someone serious. I don't hate Mchale I'm sure he is a great guy but he is not the answer as coach, Morey must have owed this guy a favor from Boston or something. I think it's a bad argument to state "coaches don't make any difference" if you set aside all critical thinking about what a coach is and what they do, at the basic level a coach decides rotations and playing time for players, that makes a big difference itself, nevermind the system they establish. The fact that they are not defending him by saying he is a good coach speaks volumes. They are defending him by attacking other coaches and saying that coaching doesn't matter, think about it.
The following data speaks for itself. In most situations taking a time out to do X's ans O's is a horrible idea. I have no idea why casual fans think it is important.
LOL! WTF? I give you actual statistically significant data. You give me platitudes and your half blind eye test. I have more data available. You have nothing but your opinion.
