Watch this name in the event of a trade down: David Fales, San Jose State QB. amazing accuracy, coachable hard worker. 3rd in FBS passing yards. A BO'B kind of guy
I want a leader at the QB position. Not someone that goes out frequently. What's wrong with that? O'Brien wants a QB that will basically dedicate his life to the game. Do you guys see Manziel busting his ass in the film room all year around? Don't lie to yourselves bc you want that guy.
I suppose he got better. Less yards from scrimmage, more picks this season. 5 picks in his last 3 SEC games. 419 passing yards total against LSU and Missouri to close out their SEC schedule. Very pedestrian actually. But this is besides the point. The system produces great numbers. Let's draft Nick Florence. I think he's selling insurance up in Waco.
You cant go off stats. You have to watch the games. Manziel had way more turnovers this year. If you watched the games you'd know he was a much better player. If you went by stats, and cared about the "system" then every Texas Tech QB would be drafted in the first 3 rounds. BJ Simmons would have been the next Manning. But it doesn't work that way because players are judged on if they're good or not, not what system they were in or what kind of stats they put up. Simple as that.
I think McNair is just trying to create some sort of bidding war for the pick, i don't think its going to happen though... O'brien will pick a QB number 1 and thats really all there is to it. they can try and say they won't pick just for need but in the end thats exactly what will happen. won't be JFF though, O'Brien thinks his QBs should be role models off the field.
Who's to say that he couldn't have been even better? These guys have been drafted more and earlier lately. RG 3 Weeden Kolb Geno Smith Meh for the most part. RG 3 knee sucks and the biggest concern for him has come true. He can't take a hit. Foles look ok.
I think it's possible that Clowney impresses the heck out of everyone during the combine and the Texans can get a RG3 type trade package for him if they choose to trade the pick.
But Romeo could be the wild card if he's brought in as the DC. Because if he bangs on the desk for Clowney _ McNair may be more likely to go with what he says over Smith and O'Brien (and they may agree with Romeo anyway because he's the one with rings). And McNair has already threw out there that they've done better with defense than offense with the #1 picks.
When they hired Wade it was talk how he had the run of draft picks. Romeo's track record as a DC is better than Wade's so it's very possible the Texans extend the same courtesy to Romeo that they did with Wade (if he takes the job). - When last the Texans had a #1 pick they needed a QB just as bad as they do now and they drafted Mario _ a player who will more than likely have no where near the draft grade as Clowney. - The Texans have always been heavy defense in the draft even with an offensive minded head coach. - Rick Smith has already started they are not going to draft a QB just to be drafting a QB. Along with Bob McNair saying they've done better with defense than offense in the draft. They may draft a QB with the #1 overall pick. I'm not as sure of that as you and others. But I'm just paying attention to the Texans history and the code words they are throwing around.
I agree with half of this. But you can judge a player by their system and that's why teddy is being so highly praised. He plays in a pro style offense with the same progressions and he excels at it. Also a genius when it comes to pre snap reads and audibles. That's what I am loving most about him. I was in the trade down party but now I really really want teddy and would be disappointed. I wouldn't mind Manziel if we got an rg3 type deal. I just don't want him with the first.
That's what a majority of us do here...Lol. I assume no one here works for the Texans organization so we're all just speculating.
A big reason Kubiak got hired is because he said he could win with Carr. Though we may have needed a new QB then, we were absolutely not in the market for one, and that was made very clear. This is a totally different situation.
