I thought I read that Penn State ran a ZBS, too. Is that right?
Also just read that Ferentz's dad worked with Bill Belichick in the past, so there you go.

I find it difficult to believe Bob takes this job without having major input in this draft.

It may be that you can't change the running game because all your linemen are ZBS guys.
It could take a few years to change personnel 'types', movers to mashers.

The idea that they needed to change from the ZBS was ridiculous to begin with. People on here saying the ZBS was dead were just wrong. The Pats run it. The new OLINE coach Ferentz is a ZBS disciple.

    We are staying ZBS.

People here mistakenly equate the ZBS to the "Shannahan-Kubiak entire offensive system", and thus that's why they think its "dead". The same people complain that we are running an "antiquated" system... when in fact the power blocking setup is the old way of doing things.

All the ZBS does is utilize more movement/mobility from your lineman (rather than have them stand there like fat overweight statues blocking the guy right in front of them). On passing downs, you still need to stop the rush from the guy in front of you (unless you're setting up a screen).

I'm not saying O'Brien wont have say, but I can totally see him taking the job without having autonomy. He's Bill O'Brien man, he's not that special. He's hyped up. Sexy name. Marketing. He hasn't proven ****. He just got the keys to the best available coaching job in the NFL and he's a nobody.

News flash - the Houston Texans are the big dicks in the room, not Bill O'Brien. He might be the next coaching guru but right now he's just another newcomer. Just another branch off the NE tree that hasn't done anything anywhere without daddy.

I don't dislike the hire. I'm just saying... we're the big dicks. We're the ****ing Houston Texans. Wins and losses don't matter. This gig is GOLD.

The elder Ferentz worked with Belichick in Cleveland and the younger Ferentz worked with O'Brien for Belechick in New England.

This is from Wikipedia so take it for what it's worth.

Makes him sound like the grandfather of Zone Blocking. I'm sure Brian is well versed in it.

I think you have a point. I think McNair will have a lot of involvement with what is done with that 1st round pick. No way he leaves it solely on Smith and O'Brien. But I still think he'll take whoever O'Brien wants and or doesn't want under consideration. I don't think McNair would pull a Jerry Jones. And when the combines come around Clowney may really impress.

Man i wish there was a way to get Clowney + Manziel/Teddy.. Damn that would be a dream come true.. What would cost to get the Browns 4rd Pick.. Take Teddy/Manziel with 1st pick and than Clowney with 4th pick

Future 1st, Foster, extra picks could do it...getting both would be a Morey like move...and Rick just doesnt have that "geek" factor in him..

From what I've read Cleveland wants Johnny. And I don't know if the Texans cap situation can handle drafting two players that high. We also have nothing to trade to get another teams top pick.

    Too hard to pull off...

We'd have to give this years 2nd and 3rd, along with next years 1st and maybe 4th. That might do the job.

They dont need Foster because they can easily just sign Tate this offseason.

The whole culture of this franchise needs to be changed. Remember, year after year this team perfected the art of losing. They mastered the "loser lockeroom interview." I can recite those post game speeches from memory. They tasted really winning seasons only twice in their history and celebrated division championships like they won the SB. This team needs a whole new mind set. Glad to see the "reconstructive process" has begun. I want to see Reliant become another "death valley," where visiting teams have no chance. There has been a pervasive "wimpyness" from top to bottom that has to go.
