OH **** YES! Getting Bynum to come off the bench for Dwight would be a dream come true. His biggest (really only) problem is that he can't stay healthy, but if he's only playing 10-20 minutes a night off the bench he would be much less likely to get hurt.
I'm all for it. He still posted PER above 15 in such a bad situation, and there's no downside risk to speak of other than a roster spot and minimal pay. The upside you can only imagine...
Yep... Think of it as going thru a divorce... If you talk to the top 5 lawyers then your soon to be ex can't use them. So if we have the 3 best centers then the other team doesn't have them.. T_Man
If he is willing (which at this point I don't see why he wouldn't be) to just come off the bench and be the defensive presences Asik should have been for about 15-20 minutes a game I say ABSOLUTELY!
Rockets can sign all the centers with bad knees. Omer Asik, Andrew Bynum,... Come on down Marcus Camby! {Wait, he has a bad foot.}
If Bynum can play off the bench...sure.. but here is the truth: 1. Locker room cancer. 2. Totally motivated to make dough, and doesn't give a ish about anything else. 3. Effort and skills deterioration. Remember that classic Shaq dunk Bynum had??? Gone are those days. 4. Did I mention he is a total cancer. The Rockets would be well served to pass on this egotistical, paycheck stealing crook. He has zero desire to win in basketball. HE IS THE DEFINITION OF ANTICLUTCH, and stands against everything this fan forum expects in its players. The resounding answer should be to: PUFF, PUFF, PASS!
If he's ok with coming off the bench and the contract gives the Rockets the ability to cut at first locker room breakdown... sure. The problem is the ever-present Asik situation. Will Bynum want to make matters even more awkward? Will that hurt Morey's negotiating stance even more knowing they now have a solid backup for Dwight? This Asik situation just wont go away fast enough.
Then we could put D12, Asik, Bynum and DMo all on the floor at the same time and have the QUADRUPLE towers - the anti small ball lineup! lol
Those things might be true, and it might not work out, but it would really be a pretty low-risk move. When you have a chance to have 48 minutes of elite center play, you take that chance.
How about we use Bynum the same way we tried to use Asik at the beginning of the season. While I am not a huge fan of this idea, this could be far more effective with Bynum than with Asik because of his post play. To truly benefit from this defensively however, Bynum needs to get in shape .
I'd be okay with this, IF he wants to be here. Unless I'm mistaken though, I haven't heard us among his preferred destinations.
You are probably right that it won't work, but what it will do is keep him from other contending teams. Say what you will about his actions/attitude, but if he gets with Rivers (LAC) or that group in MIA, I think that will do wonders for him and the team for at least the rest of the season/playoffs. Look at what happened to Birdman and Beasley. Some people need a certain type of culture. My thought is to atleast pursue (sign) him, and if it doesn't work out what have you really lost? If he's a cancer, suspend him and then cut him once he is no longer eligible for the playoffs for other teams. I don't want to face him on the LAC cause we have enough problems with them as is.
this is the only probelm I see, It can blow up quick if asik comes back healthy, then bynum wont see any mins at all until asik is traded how would bynum react to that ? and teams will lowball morey even more for asik just because they know he doesn’t want to be in houston and we don’t need him even more than before because we have bynum. But bynum would be another assest at trade deadline to flip for someone, will be plenty of teams that would like to have his services on a vet min contract for playoffs. I heard yesterday that the clippers don’t want him & I know the heat are still working with oden he could be healthy right now but they just want to keep him for playoffs only…. Rockets ?????
We should give a shot @Yao Ming McHale would do this: 38 min for D12 2.5 min for Asik 1.5 min for Bynum .5 min for De-Mo The rest of time is all for GregSmith so he can develop
