Why do people think nowadays Euros are fire proof and a 'sure' thing? There would always be a risk drafting a Euro. We have them stashed overseas for a reason. The game is too different here in the US. In Europe they cultivate a more team orientated system where bigs are used at the perimeter. And there is no 'crunch time' in the sense that 'everything can happen.' Physicality is different. Euros used to flame out in bunches at the beginning of last decade.
at equal age (23), Dirk was scoring 23ppg in the NBA. I blame all his coaches in his entire life for not properly developing Donatas. He's the same height as Dirk!!!
Don't know of anyone mentioned this, but DMo's agent is Arn Tellem, who represents a large number of guys, including some star players and 3 Rockets: DMo, TJones and Asik. I wonder if a part of this is doing a favor to Tellem by way of his client DMo, maybe not as a quid pro quo for a specific favor in return but at least for the sake of keeping a good working relationship so that Tellem would help Houston out should an opportunity arises when he can tell a client that the Rockets are a classy organization to deal with.
Won't happen. Garnett is close with McHale. Remember the hug these two shared when McHale returned from his daughter's death? The Kevins have known each other since KG was still a teenager.
Nothing wrong with McHale playing players that know how to play. Just saying some players who needs more development won't be getting those development time under McHale and McHale's lack of X and Os won't help teaching young players. Problem with McHale is he plays the guys he "trusts" to death. I'm not the only person complaining about Harden's long playing time. McHale doesn't normally trust players, but when he does, he plays them to death.
I guess you didn't read the draft choices he made during his years as GM. McHale is pretty bad at evaluating talent as a coach with GM background. As a coach, he's the kind that tolerate little mistakes, with the exception of a few players, he does not let his players play through mistakes. I understand he wants to win games, but that comes with the expense of the development of young players that do need play time, and the health of the few players he trusts by overplaying them.
Do you really think DMo and TJones would have had playing time last year if PPat and Morris weren't traded? McHale played them because he had to. McHale likes players that can read and react because they fit well in his system. Guys are quick learners to his systems will be trusted and given lots of playing time. DMo isn't one that learn very fast into his system. Some players aren't good read and react players, they need discipline, they need Xs and Os, they need set plays, but that does not make them bad players. These type of players will never shine under McHale because McHale simply doesn't trust them enough to leave them on court long enough. Any mistake from them is a sign for McHale to not play them. It is what it is. I wish DMo the best and may he find a coach that can really utilize him and teach him the discipline and Xs and Os.
Lol yes i know Dirk is on a whole nother planet then Motiejunas will most likely ever be. I think his ceiling is Bargnani, and the chances of him ever even reaching that level or very slim. If things go well for him, he'l probably end up a 8 and 4 guy being a nice backup. Chances of him being out of the league and back to a euro team in a couple of years are pretty good IMO. Not a DMo hater, i do hope he becomes the next dirk and has a successful nba career.
You are keeping it real here unlike in the Royce White threads. If Hakeem and Jordan comes in every 25 or 30 years, another Dirk will grace the NBA in every 15-20 years. Meanwhile other stars who play the game differently emerge. This is not about Dmo or other guys. What are the odds of him being a star or a starter for many years?
Peković and Asik are great examples of soft Euro bigs that play on the perimeter. Don't blame players like Miličić and Tskitishvili, blame the scouts and teams that drafted them. Both of them were irrrelevant players in Europe, but I guess the NBA saw huge amounts of untapped potential.
D-Mo was a developing player in Europe and is still a project in the NBA. He wasn't a Euro star playing for one of the elite teams there.
