In these types of awkward situations, it's always best to immediately fall to the ground in a fetal position and start shaking and crying.

Jokingly say: "C-mon... Not THIS guy again!" Then stick out your fist for a dap/pound and smile as you walk by.

I guess... I dunno. Why is this scenario something that you would need a gameplan for? lol

I can actually relate to this. When I used to work in an office environment daily, I would often pretend to be talking on my cell phone while walking down the hall, so that I wouldn't have to deal with the awkward "what's up?/how are you?"

For me, it was the "made eye contact way too early from the opposite end of a long hallway". If you maintain eye contact, it's weird. If you avert your eyes, it's considered or even worse, you've declared yourself a beta.

wow, people with thousands of posts on a message board are horrible at face-to-face social interactions?

    whoda thunk it? ;)

you should'a told him, "if we're gonna keep meeting like this, can one us of pick up a part time job here so we can get discounts?"

(laugh) (walk away) (immediately apply for job)

    Say nothing.

    Or: make a joke.

The latter is harder to do but less awkward.

I think you're a chick. Awkwardness is something women make up. I've never felt awkward in my life -- despite others claiming that the situation was awkward.

Did anyone hear that story about a man that clawed his face off in a NYC supermarket the other day?

A similarly awkward experience: you see someone out at an event (concert, game, etc.) that you have about 5 mins worth of stuff to talk about. Then you end up next to them for the 10 minute shuffle to the exit. Ugh.

Cringeworthy just thinking about it. Always a race to see who will decide to do the cough and turn away cue to cut off the conversation. Or pray that something happens like a fight or something
