You know the ones that like to pretend like they are above the topic being discussed.. For example, for every person who states this is way too cold in X city..there comes a group of people "oh suck it up..it's not all that cold..i am from the north pole" Are these just one uppers?

Worse are the "oh I want to be dramatic so let me attach myself to something that's newsworthy!" Example: School shooting in Denver Poster: Oh my god! I was in Denver a month ago! Crazy! It's all in perspective now!
Amen. It happened here with that shooter at IAH last year. "ZOMG, I'M SUPPOESED TO FLY OUT OF THERE NEXT WEEK!!"
Not really. In the situation you described it could be someone defending the city because they like it. People get defensive if you say something critical about whatever it may be. On that note... There is a difference between "pretending" like you are above a topic being discussed and simply being above that topic. For example... The Weather. I can't stand people wanting to discuss the weather for more than one sentence. Also--Miley Cyrus. I will not discuss Miley Cyrus with you. I'm not going to pretend to be interested. The real pretenders are the people who will talk about whatever anyone brings up without confessing to your actual opinions about it. Most conversation is just a regurgitation of: "I heard _______." I guess I'm above discussing this topic as well.
Those people are called narcissistic. If you read the hate thread you will see me describing, that is the thing i hate most about people. The way they cant stop talking about themselves and being showoffs.
or like when there is a great discussion on amy adams and jennifers boobs, then like 2 guys storm into the page and start discussing the film, going back and fourth for like a million pages. like brehs, you have aol to instant message; =)
