He's said he wants Clowney or trade down and take Manziel. 2 major question mark players off the field. Safe pick (Teddy) doesn't mean no talent, there's always risks when picking players (especially QBs) in the first round. But those two guys have major risks, their dedication off the field and maturity are both being put in question not because of the scouts thoughts but because of their personal actions. I don't see us taking either guy because of those flaws not because lack of skills.
If a team is willing to give up a lot to take the # 1 pick from you to draft Teddy Bridgewater than you better be taking Bridgewater.. The texans are not in the same position the Rams were when they traded the 2nd pick (RG3) to Redskins) The Texans actually need a QB.. Why would they trade down and select the second best QB in the Draft, if what you need is a QB.(Preferably the top QB in the Draft) I think it would be a mistake to trade this pick.., but i guess will know when the draft comes around
Smith is doing due diligence on all NFL QB prospects. I do think O'Brien is here to help right the QB ship. If he's good with a 2nd rounder or some random free agent that's off our radar (Sanchez) then I'm sure we can accommodate that too. Sometimes these offensive minded coaches are open to established guys they see something in. Someone who's already a pro - businesslike.
I would do what New England usually does and trade down and stack up on a gang of picks and fix the offensive line and defense and draft a quarterback in the later round and let the "QB Guru" O'Brien do what he's getting paid to do and develop a QB...
Trading down? Wow. Look at KC. Stacked team. Got beat by a great QB. News flash, Manziel probably will go top 4. Who would we trade with?
The Patriots always trade down, because they have Tom Brady... thats what we are searching for., and of course there is a better chance to land one with the NO # 1 Pick (If the Texans think theres one) than there is in the later rounds) Of course you will come back and say Russel Wilson, Kapernick, Brees, but i feel better with Obrien making that pick with the NO # 1 choice...
Or you sure about that...??? QBs taking with the number one overall pick in the draft or missed on more than any other position. Only 2 of them have rings out of the 14 drafted since 1990... And it's not always because the QB isn't any good (like Jamarcus or Tim Couch) _ alot of times their team sucks and or coaching sucks making it hard for them to succeed If we were built like San Francisco or Seattle and all we needed was a QB _ by all means draft Teddy or Johnny. We'll see what McNair does because I believe he's going to have final say over what they do with this pick...
Yea they would destroy Teddy in this town. They wouldn't give him a couple of years. You see the treatment Harden and Lin gets but they don't say jack about Parsons... And Johnny would get the same treatment as Teddy _ you see who he runs with and the "OVO" tattoo he's sporting. And with him being an Aggie _ they would give him 5 incompletions...
The knock on him, which is legitimate, is his size. Principally his weight. Cause it doesn't matter how good he is, if he can't take a lickin and keep on tickin, it won't matter. To his credit, he is amazingly prescient for a college QB at avoiding hits, even when he scrambles. AND, when he got blasted early against Florida, he came up smiling and proceeded to dismantle them. But it's one thing to get blasted once, and another to get blasted once or twice a game. Some have also questioned his height as a true 6-3. Whatever. People like to point to Wilson, or Brees as small very successful QBs. And that's fair, except Wilson 4 inches shorter but weighing more than TB means Wilson is "thick". Even Brees appears to weigh more than TB, though shorter. So I think the size knock comes down to "thickness". Personally, I think it's kind of ridiculous. These days, QBs get hit less and less and the smart ones find ways to get hit even less...whether it be controlling the game and protections and recognizing blitzes and getting the ball out, or moving around the pocket, running... BUT sliding, etc. Also, I full suspect TB to show up at the combine around 205 if not more. Some say he's not as athletic... again need to wait for the combine... but he appears to run a mid 4.5 40... which is more than athletic enough for a pocket passer who scrambles intelligently, and by the way is in line with Wilson, or Jameis Winston. The final knock is competition... which is valid. I'm all on board with TB as the #1 pick. I can see why he wouldn't grade as high as a Luck, who does all the tings TB does well as a pure QB, did it in a better conference, did it at a higher level for 2 straight years (Luck with better QB ratings for last two years of college, though only slightly), and is taller and 35 pounds heavier. I can see why he wouldn't grade as high as Cam on paper - Cam is 6'5, 240+ pounds, a crazy athlete and appeared competent as a QB. But Cam never seemed to have control of the game as a QB the way TB does.... and that's really still a knock... This was Cam's best year and he did it by doing less... fewer yards, fewer rush attempts, fewer yards per rush, lower passing average... but more consistent as a QB as opposed to an athlete. More TDs, fewer interceptions, higher QB ratings. I would certainly rank him ahead of RG3, though, who while crazy fast, isn't super tall or thick, and despite the Heisman and great senior year stats, kind of came out of nowhere, and from a passing perspective seemed as much a product of a non-NFL system as anything else (well, he can be a competent QB, just noting the system played a meaningful role). Manziel seems to do a lot of the things RG3 did, but I put TB ahead of Manziel, so would do the same compared to RG3. Alex Smith seems to be highlighted as a comparison a bit... as if it's a bad thing. Obviously you'd want to see the Smith of the last few years earlier, but aside from that, dude's been a very worthy #1 QB. A bit of a game manager, but dude just dominated his playoff game (and if not for crazy playcalling they'd still be playing, 28 of their 39 plays after they went up 38-10 were pass plays, which is ridiculous). Not to mention, he's thrown 9 TD to no interceptions in the playoffs and has a 30-9-1 regular season record the past 3 years with 53 TDs and 17 interceptions. Then of course you see Aaron Rodgers as a comp. Rodgers and Smith were eerily similar from a college production and combine standpoint. Both played in similar conferences strength wise. Both around same height, same weight, same 40 time, etc., etc. So, to me, it comes down to a few questions. (1) Can TB put on some weight? Even if just 10-15 pounds. Every little bit helps. And (2) will he be more like Alex Smith or Aaron Rodgers? Cause they're very similar, except Rodgers is much less of a game, much more prolific, and better downfield thrower. And that's the difference between likely HOF and finally earning the #1 pick placement. Would I take Smith's last 3 years for TB's career? Absolutely. You can absolutely win with that, if the cards fall the right way. Would I much prefer Aaron Rodgers? OF COURSE. Who knows, but what I like of TB that leans more towards Aaron Rodgers is the dude is SUPER SUPER COMPETITIVE. He got pissed because he's lost a game of Madden on the Xbox 1 time. 1 time, and he still argues about it. He comes across as MUCH more of a football junky. And while he still isn't the best downfield thrower, he seems to be competent there, more so than Smith was as a college QB, who didn't throw downfield much at all. In short, I can see an article like this being written about TB, or Aaron Rodgers, but not Alex Smith: http://mmqb.si.com/2014/01/02/teddy-bridgewater-2014-nfl-draft/ And I can see a play like this by TB, or Aaron Rodgers, but not Alex Smith (though I'm sure someone will find an Alex Smith play like that): http://ftw.usatoday.com/2013/12/teddy-bridgewater-touchdown-gif/ So not a lot to go on, but I see a fiesty-ness in Bridgewater that is reminiscent of Rodgers. I think Rodgers is his best upside comp.
That's just two examples of the many in this thread. And I know somewhere you said you wanted Clowney, probably not in this thread but in one of these. I rest my case.
Still doesn't say I wanted Johnny... I said I would rather have Johnny if they feel they HAVE to take a QB with the number 1 pick (or even in the first)... Big difference... Nice try tho.. Good luck on finding one on Clowney.
His coach says he has large hands. He plays his xbox with gloves. It's a habit he is comfortable with. I wouldn't say light years but there is definitely a gap between him and Winston in the pocket. and definitely ahead of Bortles too. As for competition. .. Teddy Bridgewater has taken on all comers. He has risen to the challenge of all talent. He defeated West Virginia and Syracuse his freshman year 3rd ranked Florida with the best defense in the country and he outplayed Bortles and 10th ranked UCF who soundly beat 6th ranked Baylor. He had the best bowl quarterbacking performance of all the highly touted qbs this bowl season. Yes week in and week out his competition hasn't been the toughest but no one has stopped him. No one, not UH like some on here keep saying. Watch the game closely and you'll see his receivers dropped at least 5 pinpoint passes in that game that would have kept drives alive. That speaks to another issue, TB doesn't have the talent of Manziel or Winston or even Mariota. There are no 6'5 freakishly gifted recievers to throw to. No great running backs to lighten the load. No great offensive line to protect him. TB has done more with less. Teddy Bridgewater has ice in his veins. He converts 64% of his third down plays. That's unheard. He gets better in tight situations. He does not get intimidated by hard hits and is fearless in the pocket as much as anyone I've seen including most NFL QB's . People say they are not comparing him to Andrew luck but I am and while he doesn't have the polish that Luck had coming out of college, he is quicker in the pocket and on the run, throws more accurately even on the run. People compare him to Rodgers, but he looks better than Rodgers did in college. People talk about lack of ceiling but that is the one area I am sure he has not reached. He has gotten better every year. He will continue to improve just like Watt improves on Defense because he has the work ethic, intelligence and talent to do so. He is always studying the game and always trying to improve. The only player I think might be be a better talent at his position than him is Clowney but Clowney doesn't have that work ethic and plus he is not a QB. Take the only QB worthy of the 1st pick Teddy Bridgewater.
Spoiler I never said that you wanted Johnny either. SEE!!! Also thanks for the well wishes, here is the post saying that you would want Clowney.
Seriously dude, enough with all the subjective, non-fact emotional comments, tangents and gut-feel crap. "taken on all comers"..."plays X-box with gloves"..."not light years but definitely a gap between him and Winston"..."he hasn't reached his ceiling"..."he looks better than Rodgers did".. nobody takes your posts seriously because it's clear you're a fanboy
Ha, BiGTEXX, you have been brown nosing Bortles with the same crap you call OMR out for. Against Baylor he was hyping Bortles passes to the flats that went for 50 like he was some QB worthy of the number one. OMR's post actually come off intelligent. Your bias towards Bortles is rather annoying as it is apparent you really don't know much about him or just don't watch much football.
I was simply commenting on Bortles throughout the game. I wasn't fluffing him like OMR is doing with Bridgewater. Go back and read my posts and you'll see that.
Dude there are three names on that list and you only told him one... Which means I'm not in love or feel we HAVE to have Clowney. And put Sammy Watkins on that list as well _ HE'S A BEAST... And why are you so upset that I don't think Teddy can walk on water like you...??? You're so mad you're burning time looking through my post...Lol. It's ok that people have different opinions. It makes the board fun. As long as you think Teddy can turn water to wine, that's all that should matter to you.
