The Satanist group are saying they are representing Satanist in Oklahoma. From your link:
[rquoter]"The monument has been designed to reflect the views of Satanists in Oklahoma City and beyond," temple spokesman Lucien Greaves said in a statement. [/rquoter]

Now whether there really are Satanist in OKC I don't know but given the size of OKC I wouldn't be surprised if there were a handful of them. Anyway do we know for a fact that all of the planning and funding for the 10 Commandments monument came from in state?

The article sort of makes the Greaves point.
[rquoter]The push by the Satanic Temple has rankled elected leaders in this conservative state known as the buckle of the Bible Belt, who say such a proposal would never be approved by the commission.

"I think you've got to remember where you are. This is Oklahoma, the middle of the heartland," said Rep. Don Armes, R-Faxon. "I think we need to be tolerant of people who think different than us, but this is Oklahoma, and that's not going to fly here."
    ...
Another Oklahoma legislator, Rep. Earl Sears, called the group's effort "an insult to the good people of the state."

"I do not see Satanism as a religion, and they have no place at the state Capitol," said Sears, R-Bartlesville.[/rquoter]

It's not that bad. OKC could make some money off of it by having some great old school metal shows in front of it.

Howabout an annual Sabbath Ronny James Dio tribute fest?

How is this different than the ten commandments monument at the Texas Capitol that's been there 50 years?

Haha why not? They opened a can of worms by putting the ten commandments out there. The flying spaghetti monster is funnier though. I prefer the invisible pink unicorn though.

I guess they're trying to legislate what constitutes a religion now? Haha

You cannot have it both ways. Either no religious statues are allowed or all are allowed. I seriously doubt that intense and honestly quite impressive statue of Satan ever gets put up... the protests in Oklahoma would be insane... Just wait until a goat or chicken or vanilla colored newborn infant is sacrificed in front of the statue.

If that statue did get built, it'd be a lightning rod of all kinds of trouble. Defacement at least, maybe violence. Not that I think it'll ever get built. Probably the Satanists will manage to get the 10 Commandments moved to private land.

    It's not....

and I can't stand those sorts of monuments. They become idols...the "thing" becomes more important than the concept they thought it was worth building to represent.

As usual, MadMax is the voice of reason WRT religion.

Sadly, I can't rep him again this soon. :(
