They made the trade to save themselves some money. Jerryd Payless is owed a little more than $6M over 2 years and Courtney Lee is owed more than $15M over 3 years.
I know, but that's what he meant by connecting Rondo with the Bayless trade. This is a good trade for the Celts without considering Rondo. Why do you think Memphis did it?
They actually like Courtney Lee's game, it seems and how he fits next to Conley and the rest of the guys. Much needed shooter for them and a decent defender.
Even if they do, is Bayless really significantly less of a player than Lee? Got to be more to this trade.
Because Bayless sucks. He's Travis Outlaw, an athletic guy who only shoots mid-range jumper but isn't really good at them. And this trade basically shows how little Boston offered in the proposed Asik trade.
It's a salary dump pure and simple. Bayless has showed flashes and Lee is owed too much to stay in Boston
Yeah im sure lee is the shooter +defender Allen isn't. Good for celts and could be the same if lee can steal minutes from Allen.
exactly. salary reasons. I don't see Lee helping the Grizz much though. So I am kind of puzzled how it benefits them.

It would make more sense but being locked into Lee's contract until 2016 still makes it a net negative IMO. Lee's contract makes him a liability.
