What I'm reading is, the two teams are obviously working out the details, but it is not yet done yet.

Thread title was a little premature.

Let's allow J.R. to scoop everything around here, hmn? J.R. is like the clutchfans Robocop. He was human but somehow....isn't, now.

All that matters to me is, how is Pau going to do on the Cavs? Hopefully his fantasy value won't take a hit. :3

I don't think this trade will happen. I feel like the Lakers can get more for Gasol than just cap relief, and I don't think the Cavs will give them anything else of value.

Why do you think they can get more for an aging player with a huge contract that can walk at the end of this season? Only two types of team make sense for Gasol to go to with LA getting more than cap relief in return.

    1) Teams that are trying to win a title this season and Gasol can push them there (since he can leave this summer).

    2) Teams that are confident they can resign Gasol this summer.

Cleveland does not fit 1 or 2.

This is what I fear will happen. Somehow, the Lakers will end up with one of the biggest stars of the draft. Lakers being a terrible team is bad for the league.

I still think it may. How will Pau show up to the Laker facility tomorrow knowing he was nearly traded twice already? In addition, he's been in trade rumors for 3 consecutive years. There is no way Pau will be with the Lakers after the trade deadline, nor will he resign if the Lakers do keep him.

    Yes, but they fit 3.

    3) Teams looking for cap relief by adding an expiring contract.

Howard averaged 17 ppg, 11 rpg, 2 bpg on 62% FG in the playoffs. Pau averaged 14 ppg, 12 rpg, 7 apg. I think they worked fairly well without Kobe around.

....Bynum is already an expiring contract (next yr not guaranteed)

If you say teams looking to slash salary this year, then the Lakers would fit your description

I still don't see why the Cavs do this if they have to give up anything more than a protected 1st rder, NOT in 2014

Lol how is it Kobe's fault? Blame it on D'antoni he didn't want the two big men playing together and that cause the rift between D'antoni and Gasol the whole season.

I never did say it was Kobe's fault, I just stated that we saw the Pau-Dwight combo in full effect only after Kobe's injury. D'Antoni was forced to play through the two big men because the rest of the team was downright terrible.

I agree that the blame isn't entirely on D'Antoni but I also think he was not the right coach for the situation he came into. The team they had would have been good in the triangle with Gasol in the high post, I blame Buss for not giving the job to PJ when he had the chance.
