I think they do it for casual fans like me who only watch maybe one PPV a year and reminisce on the good ol days... plus I don't think they trust any of the new guys to Main Event WM. I mean Cena, Orton, Punk and Bryan are they only regulars I would trust to Main Event. also, Is it just me or does the business lack star power? The only guys i can think of who became stars after like 2004 are Punk and Bryan, everyone else is meh...
On the money. This post actually reminded me of a thread I started on a wrestling forum that I will copy and paste below. The problem with WWE isn't a lack of depth chart but the inability to make newer guys a big deal like they did Austin, Rock etc. Just look at how things would be if the creative department actually had their heads together. I wrote this post over a year ago and it's as relevant today as it was then. *** As we all have witnessed, the WWE is currently suffering from the lack of star power and as a result, we see this ongoing pattern of Wrestlemania relying on stars of yesteryear for a one off or short-term appearance. History as also shown the WWE has built up decent superstars only to pull the plug on them for one reason or another. I'm sure that we have enough names of Superstars who got their careers screwed over to make an entire roster for the WWE that if pushed properly would be some of the most talented and entertaining rosters of all time. So I'm going to give it a shot using the criteria of being a Superstar with the WWE that isn't where they are supposed to be in their career by now (ex: Kofi Kingston) or were released for some reason or another before they had a chance to get really over (Ex: Kaval). There may be some people on here roster that are currently in "wait and see" mode and they may breakout with time. The division are classified according to how much I have faith in them to elevate their game at a best case scenario. I'm also using Superstars within the last five years that haven't died rather then an all-time roster of folks who got f***d career-wise. Anyways, Here goes: WWE "Potential-blown" Roster 2012 Main Eventers (World Title Division) Muhammad Hassan #1 Heel Shelton Benjamin #1 Face MVP Carlito Daniel Bryan The Miz Alberto Del Rio Wade Barrett Mike Knox (Mark Henry/Kane Monster roll) Ken Kennedy Kofi Kingston Upper Midcard (IC/US Title Division) Kaval John Morrison Elijah Burke Evan Bourne Sin Cara Dolph Ziggler Zack Ryder Ezekiel Jackson Jack Swagger Cody Rhodes Ted Dibiase Jr Skip Sheffield (Now Ryback) Lowercard Division Drew McIntyre Charlie Haas Shane Helms Luke Gallows Yoshi Tatsu Daivari Tag Teams Division Cryme Tyme Brian Kendrick/Paul London Primo/Epico Uso Brothers Tyson Kidd/DH Smith (Hart Dynasty) Women's Division Natalya Beth Phoenix Gail Kim Kharma Now if you tell me...this Roster would be a blast to watch if everyone was pushed to their full potential. What do you guys think?
I think they're are any of a number of guys that could be main event level. It's all about perception, if fans think your a big time guy, you are. There aren't any real fights you have to win. Austin and Rocks mic skills can't be matched, but plenty of other guys (HBK,Bret Hart,Diesel,Triple H,Kurt Angle,Cena,Batista to name a few) had mediocre mic skills but became main event guys. Daniel Bryan was popular, but didn't become really popular until they put him in the world title picture. He didn't become massive until the push he got leading up to Cena. Punk too was really popular, again didn't become massive until the pipebomb fued with Cena (say what you want about Cena, he gives far and away the biggest rub in the company) Ziggler is the most notable current guy that was gathering steam only to be completely shut down. You have to give guys extended runs at the top before fans will believe them as a top guy. You can't just have the top guys facing each other all the time.
It looks like most of that roster on this list are wrestling in TNA, ROH, Japan, Mexico, Europe, and any other Indy circuit promotions.
Old school Raw has been pretty fun with the guys from the 80's and 90's coming back like we've been talking about in this thread. Haven't really watched Raw since maybe the early 00's.
In my "mock" wrestlemania card, I had reigns costing Ambrose the us title to somebody at royal rumble or elimination chamber. And it sets up a triple threat match between all three shields. They need to get the belt off Ambrose and put it on someone else. They should hotshot it to dolph and then job him to that dancing fat guy. Why is name escaping me. He's doing a slow heel turn, unless he already did and didn't see. The dancing dinosaur guy. Somebody call his momma. That dude.
Weird how a respectable accountant/government official raised a son who turned into a Florida swamps cult leader. But then again, this is Roman Reigns' dad: That family came a long way, going in one generation from Stone Age cannibals to modern swat team member.
LOL! He's about to be a former SWAT team member... I just did The Shield break up in my "WWE 13 Universe", I scheduled, Handicap Tornado Match at the Hell In A Cell PPV CAW Roman Reigns Vs. CAW Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins It was pretty awesome, Roman won and was succesfully turned into a heal. Im not sure where i should go next with the story, Wrestlemania is the next PPV, should they feud more or should Roman go for the IC Title? Oh and does anybody have an opinion on "WWE 14" is it signifacantly better than 13?
Early Mania card prediction, not a bad card IMO Lesnar vs Taker Shield triple threat, not sure of the exact details (rollins costs ambrose his title and reigns thinks he's being held back?) Cena vs Bryan hopefully (i predict Bryan uses the wyatts to get through the rumble and double crosses them at the end) Bastista vs Orton Cody vs Golddust AJ vs (does it really matter) Random tag match to get guys on the card
Don't watch much besides the big ppv's and yesterday's RAW. Is Roman gonna start getting a bigger push? I see this Shield crack storyline as a way of separating Roman from the chaff, admittedly because the other two look like jobbers. I had the same thoughts when I saw Batista as a background guy in his stable (evolution?)
Reigns clearly has the biggest future, but Ambrose and Rollins are most certainly not jobbers. Ambrose is gonna be a great bad guy, and Rollins is an extremely good performer, although he might have troubles establishing a good character.
WWE got freaked out by the WM XXVI buyrate and has gone to the old-timers ever since. I read an article a few years back that basically stated WWE's profit is so reliant on Wrestlemania week that a year where they truly bomb would be devastating to the company. Their current strategy is certainly the most profitable in the short term, but damaging in the long term. Imagine if Cena suffered a career ending injury tomorrow. The company is entirely f'd.
