Where's the option for "Take any QB (except Manziel)"?? I'm not a biased person, but I hate A&M, heh heh. Anyway, I do like what little I've seen of Bridgewater, but I know nothing about QBs so I don't have much to elaborate on that... BUT, I do know that a franchise QB is the most important singular piece to a team and while no QB is a guaranteed thing, your absolute best chance at landing a franchise (and potentially elite) guy is from the first pick of the first round of the draft. Period. For our team, QB is not a position of need, it is THE position of need, and we just happen to have gotten the best opportunity to get one. Why in the world would you trade that spot away? Though a St. Louis-like haul (via RG3 pick) would be nice, it would delay our team's success another season or two all while hinging on the hope that the picks via trade would be high... and that kind of haul is unlikely anyway. Normally NBA and NFL draft comparisons aren't analogous since the former is virtually worthless after the first few picks and the latter can net you good talent in the first couple rounds, but for the QB position, I think the situations are similar: After an NBA team successfully tanks a whole season and wins the lotto for the number one pick, would you suggest they trade away that pick? Or perhaps just make the safe pick on someone who will most likely be a solid role player?? Even if none of the QBs in this draft seem that exciting, I think given the rare opportunity of a 1.1 pick, you have to take the chance.
We need a Qb in the most crucial way.. and people don't want the best QB prospect in this draft, for whatever reason.. Take Bridgewater, and eliminate the QB problem for the next 10 years, we have a QB guru coach now.. I think O'Brien would get the best out of him.. how many teams still got egg on the face for passing on Rogers, if he's the second coming.. please don't deny this franchise that type of talent I just don't want a old veteran plug in, or to take a chance on someone else like we did on Schaub, u only get the #1 pick so often, use it wisely and develop the best QB prospect available.
In your opinion, what would be worse? 1) Drafting a QB #1 and having them ending up being a bust while at least one QB taken later becomes a franchise QB or 2) Passing up a future franchise QB (by trading back or deciding to draft someone else) while the QB you take later in the draft doesn't pan out.

If he's gonna be a leader, he needs to prepare better than he has in the past. Peter King: Jacksonville, Cleveland - (Manziel) won't get past four. King: The Rams want to move down. They want to turn the 2nd pick into two ones. (This year or next.) Pioli: GMs and personnel people are more concerned about Clowney than they are Manziel.
I think I would pick Manziel just for all the crazy drama it would bring to Houston. It would be very entertaining. Manziel is a wild man both on and off the field. I see Manziel and Harden becoming buddies and hitting the strip clubs together. Let's bring some excitement to Houston. Bridgewater would be a boring pick compared to Manziel.
Depends on what you want to do. Win games now or more later I think Johnny Football gives you the ability to possibly be a contender(higher potential) for a long time in 3 or 4 years. Texan games would be much more fun to watch with JF Bridgewater will put this team in playoff mode next year IMO. I think this guy is already an above average QB if he were playing in the NFL right now, but something about his screams conservative. Give me the excitement. Johnny Football.
This is what it comes too? We want Manziel so bad that we have to make it about entertainment value versus talent/skill to not draft Bridgewater... maybe Bridgewater can do the moonwalk like Michael Jackson then eventually get his skin bleached or something man I want the best qb out this draft whoever it is.
Absolutely. But he's still very valuable if he grades out as expected. Plus, O'Brien is talking about running a hybrid scheme, changing things up, keeping the offense on its toes. There's a role for Clowney available.
I don't think I could take another section of this forum posting knee jerk threads and freaking out TMZ-style as soon as Manziel would go out partying. My body ain't ready. Too emotional for the GARM, too dumb for the D&D.
I think the Texans will pick Bridgewater, and I'm OK with that. But after the miserable year we have just had I want to be super excited about next year. And Manziel is the most exciting football player on the planet. I mean who really knows who is going to be the better NFL QB? Flip a coin, either guy could be great or a complete flop. I think I have decided to all in and go with Manziel. Even many of the so called experts are split between Bridgewater and Manziel. I say just go with the guy that will bring the most excitement next year. All eyes will be on the Texans with Manziel as the QB. If I was convinced that Bridgewater was head and shoulders above Manziel then I would go with Bridgewater. I'm not really convinced of that. I've seen Manziel do some super human things on a football field. I want to see him do that with the Texans.
This reminds me of Varsity Blues when they hit up the strip club the night before the game and play the next day with hangovers.
We really need to get out of the mindset that we can draft a QB in the 2nd round or trade down and use a late first on a QB. It's either Bridgewater or Manziel...if not those two, then you may as well save the pick and not even draft a QB this season. The Texans will draft a QB if they stay put at 1...and if they trade down to #4, for example, then rest assured that they have enough intel that they know they'll be able to get Manziel.
Could you imagine the epic arguments we would see from BOB and Manziel on the sideline. The Texans would be headlining Sports Center every night.
Really? Just like we had enough intel in last year's 2nd round when the Ravens jumped in front of us to take Arthur Brown? Um no. I have little faith in Rick Smith's drafting prous and even less faith in his ability to know what other teams are gonna do. I'm still trying to figure out whether or no we got a single decent player out of the last two drafts, not withstanding Hopkins who looks to have the value of a late 1st rounder.
My point has nothing to do with Rick Smith...my point is that taking a QB in the late first or 2nd round is a terrible idea and shouldnt even be entertained. The Texans need a QB and it should either be Bridgewater or Manziel. There are no other options...we are in the spot to get any QB we want, dont waste that opportunity is all Im saying.
Frankly, I don't know what to do. Maybe after the combine, things will clear up. For now, I picked Manziel. His intangibles are off the charts. He will ultimately succeed somewhere, somehow.
