That may only be on run downs... Richard Seymour didn't put up big sack numbers in Romeo's system but teams ran more back then. The NFL has changed to a pass happy league which means more nickel and dime. J.J. will have plenty of chances to rush the passer. Also Romeo likes to use BIG nose tackles. That may be much better for J.J. than having a small guy.

Just from the view that those are 2 guys who can get to the QB that you're not really asking to get to the QB.

As far as being able to do what is asked of them in occupying blockers, yes, they could definitely get the job done. I just wonder if it's overkill.

My question on personnel for that kind of defense is do you need players of that caliber to occupy blockers? Or can you find player who can fill that role, who may not be able to get to the QB consistently but are able to occupy blockers, later in the draft?

Wade's defense didn't call for the DE to get to the QB either.

To be clear, Romeo Crennel has not been hired as the DC of the Texans.

Romeo would be a fool to not utilize JJ in more ways that that

Romeo is also coaching the east west game which is goo so he can see some of the players we can take later in the draft

Is Clowney even big enough to play DE in the 3-4...??? Most 3-4 DEs are usually big enough to play D tackles in 4-3 systems. That would be a waste of his talent. You can get a big dude out the 4th round to do that...

    Thanks.

I still see it as "Let us dictate what happens". Halfway through the 1st season, if our other defenders step up & win 1on1s, Olines will be forced to re-adjust & that's when Watt&Clowney show.

Thant being said, i want Johnny (not just because he's Lebanese).

How's the weather way up on your high horse?

Wade seems cool, but he had to go. Constant lack of adjustments, terrible red zonedefense, ddidn't disguise blitzes, etc.

Crennel wasn't the best head coach, but he'd be perfect for the job because he's NOT a young up and comer. He would be a guy that O'Brien could turn to any time he had a question or issue with his new job - not that I expect there to be many.

For what it's worth, Watt has been occupying double teams for 2 years now, and it hasn't seemed to stop him.

I imagine Romeo will find a way to utilize JJ and not just turn him into a clogger.

Wade deserved it. Our defense has been problematic besides his first year. The downward trend always happens with Wade.
