So basically if we have a better record than the Clippers we would be the 5th seed but have homecourt over the Clippers if the playoffs started today?

I don't know if I want to even play the Clippers in the first round. Chris Paul in the playoffs is a completely different monster then regular season Paul. Beverly I don't think is a smart enough defender to not pick up too many fouls to stay in the game vs Paul. Lin is average-above average defensively.

The way they use Reddick will tire the hell out of Harden (fighting through literally 2-3 picks everytime). Griffin vs Jones may be interesting to see though.

this is why dropping games against chump teams is a no no. You know the Rockets will playing the clippers in the playoffs. Rockets always get the worst matchup possible.

I think the best scenario for us is to slide up to the number 3 seed something like this:

    San Antonio (division winner)
    Oklahoma City (division winner)
    Houston
    LA (division winner)
    Dallas
    Denver
    Portland
    Golden State

I would hope for a Denver, Golden State, or Portland matchup in the first round and to avoid the Spurs as long as possible.

I think Portland will be 5-6th seed and above Denver.
If Spurs have an injury we can fight for the Division and feast on it.

    OKC
    Rockets
    San Antonio
    Clippers
    Portland
    Dallas
    GSW/Denver
    Lakers?/Memphis?

Exactly. This same problem last year costs us a chance to play a Galo-less Nuggets team as opposed to a Thunder team. We were a mere 2 games from the 6th seed.

    as it stands currently:

    4. LAC 23-12
    5. HOU 22-13
    6. GSW 22-13

Warriors on an 8 game streak but Rockets own 2-0 head to head matchup.
Clippers lose Chris Paul for 3-5 weeks
Rockets dormant for the next 4 days.

    Clippers upcoming schedule
    Sat 1/4 @ San Antonio
    Mon 1/6 Orlando
    Wed 1/8 Boston

    Warriors upcoming schedule
    Sun 1/5 @ Washington
    Tue 1/7 @ Milwaukee
    Wed 1/8 @ Brooklyn

we could go from 4th with homecourt advantage to 6th by the time of our Wednesday evening matchup with LA.

In case GSW goes 2-2 in direct matchup, they got the higher percentage in the WC

they only play one more time this season, in February.

Rockets clinched a tiebreaker over Warriors already.

I think it's a safe prediction the Warriors will finish higher than the Rockets, barring injuries.

I'm not sure how the Clippers will do without Paul.

The Rockets are lucky the T-Wolves are so underachieving this season (attributable directly to coaching imo).

I will go with GSW. They are the better team.

Phoenix has a 5 game road trip coming up next and a 4 game road trip before the end of January.

LMAO how on earth is that a safe prediction? They certainly could finish higher than the rockets but considering we've beaten them twice I'm not sure what logic you use to think they'd obviously be the higher seed?

The Rockets know they're in 5th place. They know teams are creeping from behind. All the more reason these bad losses are so bad.
