Not some; all. Everybody, from Chip Brown to "Jesus Shuttlesworth," has looked like a moron during this whole process. Please, Patterson. Hire somebody and put us out this misery.
If you think this is a good hire then the only "tard" is you. lmao, dude you must have been easy to shop for Christmas. Clueless!
People are shooting down and confirming. Don't know what to think. I think Strong is a solid choice but obviously I want Saban. And to the guy calling me a ****ty Texas fan or whatever, I was just speculating about what would happen if we got Saban. This whole time I have been passing off info from people who claimed to have inside sources on the Internet. You should know from people who claim the same on clutchfans the nature of these things. That some prove to be right and others wrong
I'll be honest with you man, I am probably just disappointed that the guy I wanted most (Franklin) did not get chosen. But, yeah, I just have never thought Strong was a good choice for UT during this whole process. He is a good coach that should have gotten a head coaching job a lot sooner than he did (and it was pleasing as all get out to see him beat Florida after they chose the unproven Muschamp over him, when Strong had been part of two national titles there and had a better resume) -- but still, I just don't think he has the ceiling as a coach to warrant the Texas job. I think other coaches could do a lot more with Texas. Strong, to me, is going to make Texas a good and solid team. But if that is the best you can do, then you may as well stay at Louisville. Texas has the potential as a program to be in a different stratosphere, and I just don't see Strong as potentially dynamic enough to take us there. Franklin had a lower floor but, I think, a higher ceiling. But, again, this is just my spoiled temper tantrum over not getting the guy that I thought would have been perfect to coach the Longhorns for the next two decades. If the report is true I will support Strong and cheer for the team just as loud as I would have for Franklin.
1 green bar, over 600 posts. You MUST just be full of knowledge and insight. Keep up the good work and for being another CF pass over. LOL. The bridge is clear, you may go back to your box underneath it, tard troll.
Well, from Texas' perspective, I think it has. Certainly not the rumors/etc, but that's not something that the University controls. I don't think the University itself has done anything bad. I hate to say it and hope I'm wrong, but if Strong is the choice, I suspect we'll be looking for a new coach in 4-5 years.
Texas total football expenses - $25,896,203. Revenue - $103,813,684. Louisville - Expenses - $18,769,539. Revenue - $23,756,955. Before the 2013 season.
Because he went to the NFL or because he was fired? If it's the NFL, you should be glad, it would mean he was very successful at UT.
Part of it is just a gut feeling. I just don't see a lot impressive on his resume - certainly not compared to most of the other candidates being discussed. He's a defensive guy, but until this year, his defenses at UL have been nothing special and as far as I know, there's no particular identity to his teams. His winning there has coincided with having the best QB in the country. Obviously recruiting TB was great, but I don't know how much of the credit he gets vs his staff for developing him since he's a defensive guy. He recruits well in Florida because of his ties there, but how will that translate to recruiting Texas, where he doesn't have ties? None of this is to say he's not good - I just don't think he's proven it yet (sort of like Franklin, but with different circumstances). His HC resume is pretty short, and nothing in it really stands out to me. The only thing really impressive to me is the one win vs FL. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong - I'm just not sold on him.
agree with this. He might turn out to be good, but this pick is not without risks. just a suspicion, but the fact that he's black was likely taken into consideration in a positive way due to what's going on with the sheep humpers' recruiting
granted, most every title-winning coach except saban at alabama is someone who wasn't any bigger of a name than strong when they were hired, but this definitely doesn't feel like a homerun. he's not a huge name and like you said, his only identity is defense and that's only if you go back 4 years to his florida days as an assistant. but maybe that doesn't matter. if he really knows how to recruit, then he'll get good players and those players will probably win. whether he's a big program caliber coach remains to be seen but i suppose it always is that way until the coach starts winning. people can say what they want about mack brown, but i'd be fairly ecstatic if you told me we could get 2001-2009 over again (without the qb injury on the 5th play of the national title game) out of charlie strong. let's hope he's up to it and not just a guy who can turn a school from bad to good but can get from good to great. it's also strange how people keep talking about how strong is great because we need to turn our D around. after we fired diaz our D was fine. we just played uber-offenses baylor and oregon and held them to 23 and 16 offensive points (we threw an impressive 3 pick 6's* to get those teams to 30 points). it was the fact that our offense just cratered and could barely complete a pass that destroyed the end of the season. and really, the last 4 years. i'd rather he bring his ability to recruit #1 draft pick qb's than his defensive acumen. *technically it wasn't a pick 6 against baylor since they got a celebration penalty at the 1 yard line but that's nitpicking.
I think Charlie Strong is a great hire. I contemplated starting a thread last week asking when he was going to get a shot at either this job or an NFL job. The guy just seems like a winner. His players love to play for him. He's fairly young. At Louisville, he's got both sides of the ball working. If his staff comes with him (Shawn Watson), I think it's a great hire.
Strong wasn't my first choice (not quite as proven as some other guys), but this is a good hire. Love his attitude. I definitely wanted someone who, in a sense, doesn't fit b/c I think Texas needs a bit of a culture change. Strong can be that guy. I just hope we can pair him with a good OC, since Strong is defensive-minded.
I think he'll bring Bedford with him as his DC, but I'm hoping he goes and gets a young, hot name OC.
I do like this part of it - from what I hear about it, it doesn't sound like he'll put up with some of the entitlement attitude issues the program has had for a while now.
