Sup-Par AQ conference and he's just now having the best game of his career against Miami... DRAFT HIM...!!! Lol...
What does going #1 matter if the issue is that Bridgewater went to a smaller school? I do not know how Bridgewater will pan out. He isn't Luck or Manning where everyone is fighting to trade up. However I do know that he is more of a sure thing than people think. He has ran an offense from under center (RGIII never did). He had the authority to make adjustments at the line and he did very well. He makes excellent decisions. He is very evasive in the pocket. He prepares very well and is not likely to have off the field issues. Hell, his responsibility within the offense is more important than the fact he played at Louisville and not Texas A&M or Baylor. Being the best athlete (although Bridgewater is a good athlete) is not as important as the other qualities. Look at the best QB's over the last 30 years, few (Elway is an exception) were elite athletes. Let me ask you this: Can Bridgewater make the deep throws? Can Bridgewater hit crossing routes at a high success rate? Can Bridgewater avoid the rush and/or audible out of the defense? Can Bridgewater make smart decisions and not turn the ball over? Can Bridgewater see over the line and not focus on single receivers? Does Bridgewater have good, repeatable mechanics? Is Bridgewater a good athlete? So what are the negatives? He has a good but not great lower body? He played at Louisville? He is black so some are afraid he is doomed to fail?
That's your damn problem... You just want a QB and you don't care who... And that was the same situation when the Texans drafted Carr when they shouldn't have. I want a great QB... That's my agenda buddy. I'm tired of watching average at best QBs on this team...
Your argument is based off opinions. Along with everyone else that makes these types of posts. Last year he completely destroyed Florida in the Sugar Bowl, yet every time it is brought up we get the "well they were on a downslope already during that game" argument. When they actually had a fantastic defense led by hard hitting Jon Bostic who was selected in the 2nd round of the draft if I may add. OH and Matt Elam was a first round pick from that squad as well.... does THAT count as NFL talent? Probably not for you and every other Bridgewater negater. Regardless I believe he has the best tools to become a consistent winning QB in the NFL right now. That is MY opinion but yours is based off pure speculation no facts whatsoever.
You're asking me...? I don't run the NFL. And like I already said _ if playing against weak competition didn't matter _ why didn't Case get drafted...? And if playing against weak competition doesn't matter _ Jimmy Garoppolo is the best QB in this draft... Because if you like Bridgewater, you will love him... And I wouldn't mind if the Texans waited and drafted him in the 3rd or 4th round...
No I want Bridgewater or Manziel, I think both guys can be great. Don't care who between the two of them. You make an argument for taking a 2nd round pick QB instead but those guys work out way less than taking the best guy available. Bridgewater is a good prospect and so is Manziel. I'd much rather take one of them than take the next Kellen Clemens or Tavaris Jackson (one of the many laundry list of horrible 2nd round QB's that you seem to be so in favor of taking). I was just calling you out for claiming to have nothing against Bridgewater but continue to slam him and prop up Manziel. My guess is you are an Aggie.
I didn't bring color into it. It is a concern that has been raised by a number of people. I am asking you, if Bridgewater can make all the throws, plays in an NFL style system, already makes adjustments and has all of the physical traits needed, what is your concern?
the competition is a valid point to a certain extent but in the context of his strengths, i.e. accuracy, intelligence and awareness, competition has no real bearing on.
I won't argue with you about Johnny... He's my favorite in this draft and I think he's worth that number one pick because he has a higher ceiling than Teddy. I just don't think the Texans will draft him because of his size... And by the way... Brees, Rodgers, Foles, Wilson, Kapernick, Brady, and plenty of others were not taking with high draft picks... Heck, I believe Joe Montana was taking in the 3rd round. I believe it's alot more to do with coaching in addition to the talent of the players.
The talent of competition he has faced. That Louisville team is a big fish in a small pound. Charlie Strong is part of the reason why Miami suxks right now because he's taking their kids... And not so much of a concern _ I just don't believe he's the best QB in this draft...
I'll say it again: ALL of the monumental QB busts in the history of the NFL have happened because people have become obsessed with physical tools and ignored the mental part of the game. And all the "surprise" QB's have been guys who were rock solid with respect to the mental parts of the game, but weren't perfect physical specimens. If you could trade the #1 overall pick for Russell Wilson, would you do it? Or would you not do it because he isn't Ryan Leaf? It doesn't matter if he doesn't look like Adonis. What matters, once you determine that his arm is adequate enough to throw a 10 yard out, is what is going on inside his head.
It's gonna be fun to revisit this thread this time next year. Both sides will still have a lot to say whether he becomes a Texan this year or not.
How can you judge his awareness by playing against weak competition...??? You can't.... Case had GREAT awareness when he was at UH... And so did David Carr... Once they got on that NFL field _ different story.
Because Case wasn't much of a NFL prospect. Bridgewater was a highly coveted high school QB, 4 stars coming out of HS, all the tools. He lived up to the recruiting status with his college career and is seen as possessing NFL-level talent. Case was a 2 star guy who only had one scholarship offer, to UH. He was barely viewed as a college prospect, much less a NFL one. Credit to him for having a great college career, but he just doesn't have NFL makeup. I think this year established the scouts were correct.
Florida was a very good defense at the beginning of the season but they fell way off by the end of the season when they played Louisville... But I'll give you that one... And he did play a good game... I'm not calling the kid garbage.
I don't need the explanation _ and I never thought Case or Kevin would do much in the NFL... There are A LOT of QBs at small schools or in sub par divisions with NFL measurables but many GMs and Coaches look at the talent level of the competition they face and there's a reason for it...
