    Right on man!

Rockets can never become a top tier contender if they don't change their style of play. Please take a page from Mr. Hornacek.

This is just wrong. Offense and defense are separate, remember the Rockets under grumpy? We had amazing defense, but we would have games that ended in the 80s/90s. If anything the two are in complete contrast of each other. The best approach is a balanced one with a knowledgeable enough coach who tip the scales toward offense when scoring is low or defense when the other team starts to make a run. We have no balance and our coach is more of a fundamentals coach and less of a strategist. The Rockets are also a top ten team. They have shown they can beat the good teams, it's just a matter of showing the same intensity when you play the spurs as you do when you play the jazz. The rockets go into coast mode much of the time. The funny thing is the Heat had these exact same struggles early on and people said the team would implode, they found a way to bring it together and I think Houston can do the same.

    Unfortunately, no.

Edit: Wait, I misread your post. For some players (like LeBron) there is a dramatic decrease in % of baskets assisted when they're off the floor. For Harden, its the opposite.

    Code:
    Durant
        poss TmAst%
    on 2463 56.4%
    off 647 56.5%

    Love
        poss TmAst%
    on 2252 62.5%
    off 783 56.4%

    Anthony
        poss TmAst%
    on 2057 56%
    off 753 56.9%

    LeBron
        poss TmAst%
    on 2184 64.2%
    off 815 53.0%

    Harden
        poss TmAst%
    on 2068 51.3%
    off 1108 58.4%

    George
        poss TmAst%
    on 2159 57.9%
    off 696 56.4%

Not sure what to make of this stat, since I've never seen it before. Where did you get it, btw?

One thing to consider: Free throws never get assisted (not counting And1s). And ability to draw FTs is something GMs like Morey look at.

Also, not sure if it matters, but I notice Harden is the only shooting guard in your list. It's not like Harden doesn't rank high in assists by shooting guards. What were MJ and Kobe's numbers like?

    I got it from nbawowy.com.

82games.com also has it. For Kobe, last year it was it was 57% with him on the floor, and 67% with him off the floor.

I think it's A LOT easier to get that across guys who are basically nobodies. The one all-star type of guy they have is Dragic, and he's about as simple as they come, so he's not a problem.

Stars have to believe they can make plays others can't. They need the extra swagger and confidence. This team already knows it's selfish. They said so after the last loss. They're just taking longer to figure it out because of the stronger individual personalities.

offensive isn't this team's problem, it isn't even really effort on defense, all the effort in the world won't change the results when players are consistently out of position.

Actually, you read it right even though I wrote it wrong. And wow, I was way wrong with my assumption.

That stat certainly doesn't reflect well on Harden.

I think the point isn't whether Harden is an efficient offensive player. The issue is ball movement. % assisted does indicate how much the team scores by passing, to a certain extent.

Neither Hornycek nor the article mentions Houston or Rockets.
