    1. Covington is a SF.
    2. Covington won't be cut.
    3. Casspi won't be cut.
    4. Casspi may wind up as the starting PF.
    5. Covington will get a lot of minutes at RGV.
    6. Covington could work his way into the rotation especially if there is a big trade sometime between now and the deadline.

Is Covington that tall lanky skinny guy?

It's been one game for Casspi. Preseason is still here with a lot more games.

Covington already has one foot out the door. Realistically what were the chances of an undrafted rookie making a stacked Rockets roster?

I still think he makes the cut. Notice the guy who didn't play at all last night. Reggie Williams is the one who's gone. However, it was always a long shot for anything beyond making the roster for Covington.

Zero chance of making the 8 man rotation.

My bet is that he will play the season with the RGVs.

With a few veteran players out there likely to get bought out in the next two months, I'm wondering if its Covington, or Brewer that will be most likely to get cut.

Brewer's salary accounts for 1.186 million in trades so you'd have to think that he'd probably be kept around if they want to add a player before the deadline. If its before the deadline I'd think that Covington looks like a pretty good candidate to get cut right now. After the deadline, I guess you could make the case for cutting Brewer instead.

If they are going to bring up a wing from the D-League it almost has to be Troy Daniels over Covington. He's looked like the better player right now IMO, and is shooting the 3 at a ridiculous 50% this season down there while Covington has been... meh in pretty much every category even though he isn't necessarily not scoring or playing halfway decent.... just mehh.... IMO.

Soo.... are Covington's days numbered, or has anyone seen something that I haven't??? If a solid vet got bought out here in the coming weeks would anything think anything of waiving Covington at this point or do people here still believe he is the "Future Starting PF"??

I don't see why Covington needs to be taking up a roster spot, when guys like James Johnson were showing so much potential that the Grizzlies grabbed him from RGV. There's not really anything special about Covington, he should be signed to a D-League contract.

hmm, probably because in his short but budding NBA career, he is shooting 28% from behind the arc; 35% this year though.

It really scares me that someone will steal Troy Daniels from us before we get him. Leaving him unsigned could really bite us bad when the Spurs pick him up and he is a successful NBA player.

I was really impressed with his game this summer. Very athletic, with a great shooting form, with a ton of potential. Fits into our run-gun offense perfectly. We're so fortunate to have a Dleague affiliate, gives our guys an ideal situation to grow. Can't wait to see him tear it up. I wonder how good his work effort is tho...everything depends on that.

as much as I like Casspi's motor, his shooting has been extremely inconsistent, along with the rest of our wings minus Parsons. But i'd love to see Covington get a shot...even though I doubt he'll get that opportunity this season.

The point is, the defense knows the Rockets want to spread the floor and wont allow that second unit any clean shots. If Garcia and Casspi aren't getting clean shots, what makes anyone think that Covington would get any more open from 3?

If Asik & Lin return to the second unit I do think shots will get better from the 3 point line, but in that case is Covington still going to upgrade Garcia and Casspi???... I dont know honestly. I think if the shots are open, Garcia and Casspi hit them at around the same clip Covington would.

In the D-League I really haven't seen him do anything else that shows me he could add another dimension that those two bring. If Covington could do something else... like use his length on the defensive end, or was exceptional at running the floor than I could see an upgrade, but right now I just dont see why the roster spot would be wasted if they needed to bring someone else in that can actually help.

Isn't this the guy who said Marcus Morris would be our franchise player?
