D'antoni is a terrible coach. He got way too much credit for winning with a loaded Suns roster. People forget how good Nash, Amare and Marion were in their primes
I just posted this in the random trade thread: I was thinking about it today & wouldn't mind Melo with Harden & Howard. I know he's a 'chucker' & hasn't been the most efficient scorer, but playing alongside Dwight Howard & James Harden could possibly help by giving him more open looks, instead of the ridiculous amount of contested shots he has to take at the moment.
Only if he comes at a bargain and reduced cost.... nobody will pay him this price even if we sign and trade we will be again left with minimum players
No thanks on Melo. He'd be a terrible fit here. If you are frustrated with some of Harden's shots wait until you see some of the stuff Melo jacks up. He could have Hakeem wide open in the post and if he has a look at the rim it's going up.
I imagine the report is exaggerated but if true he could stand to make many, many millions more. So... millions are priority #1. Seems perfectly fine to me. What should his #1 priority be? Winning a trophy that carries no direct monetary value? And he obviously cares about both oibjectives if he's looking to leave a big market like NY that he's already in...
What a loser! Before the season, LeBron told the whole world not to asking anything about his upcoming (opting for) free agency and, so far, we haven't heard anything about it. Now the FA rumors are flying left and right with Melo. He was a drama queen before he jetted out on Nuggets. Hadn't he learned? Hell no! He just can't keep his mouth shut. Don't be surprised if he turns this into Carmelomare II.
Not a huge shocker. Only real reason to mention the Lakers is that they have the ability to sign Melo as a UFA this summer so there is leverage there. The Bulls absolutely have the assets to make a compelling trade, but I doubt Dolan is smart enough to know what good assets really are, and will just focus on bigger names in a potential trade. The real destination IMO would have to be the Clippers. They have the best trade piece in Blake Griffin, and they would seem to be best suited to win now. If the Knicks get the opportunity to trade for BG & Dudley for Melo I think they should jump on it. Get Melo out of NY, and get back a really good young player in BG. Then next season you have 50 million in expiring salary that you should be able to work with in trades to get young and athletic over the next two years. Of course the Knicks are stupid and will probably do something stupid like allow Melo to leave in free agency to the Lakers for nothing, and be stuck with a crappy roster of broken down old bigs.

RUMOR: Lakers want to trade Pau Gasol & Nick Young for Carmelo Anthony & J.R. Smith. Interesting proposal, but if the Lakers are talking about getting under the tax line by acquiring and waiving Bynum, why get Melo? He's not going to help them win now, might make the Lakers lethal on offence when Kobe comes back, but they will be even worse on D.
Just got a notification on iPhone from ESPN saying Knicks & clippers are discussing a melo & Blake swap, must be real because everything that comes through from ESPN is usually big news
Long time no see from Broussard  http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/story/_/id/10233011/carmelo-anthony-blake-griffin-proposal-mulled With the looming possibility of Carmelo Anthony departing New York as a free agent this summer, New York Knicks officials have discussed proposing a trade for the Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin, according to league sources. Sources say Clippers management has also had internal discussions about such a deal but that the clubs have not yet spoken to one another about a potential trade. As of now, neither team is certain of whether it would make an Anthony-for-Griffin trade, the sources said. The Clippers appear to be the more apprehensive of the two teams because Griffin is having a terrific year, especially of late. The 24-year-old power forward has averaged 26 points and nearly 11 rebounds over his last 10 games. One source close to the situation said the Clippers' latest internal discussion ended in favor of keeping Griffin. New York's top priority appears to be resigning Anthony to a long-term deal this offseason. But with the Knicks struggling badly and Anthony refusing to give assurances that he will return, the Knicks understand they must at least consider other options. The Clippers are on the Knicks' radar because it is an open secret throughout the league that Anthony and the Clippers star point guard, Chris Paul, have wanted to play together since 2010. That sentiment among the two players has not changed, according to sources. If the Knicks decide to explore a trade for Anthony, he will have plenty of say as to where he goes because of his impending free agency. No club will offer anything of value for him without knowing he will re-sign with it this summer. With Paul having recently signed a five-year, $107 million deal with the Clippers, Anthony, who has a home in Los Angeles, would almost certainly re-sign with the Clippers.

The news in the ESPN story isn't that it's been considered, but that the Clippers, like the Knicks, are leaning against it. So, you know.
— Steve Popper (@StevePopper) January 4, 2014

I don't see Melo leaving the NYK He's got a green light with a max contract. Don't think he needs anything else. Lakers East.
He wants a ring & a better coach. He was on NBA TV this week on a interview saying he has done it all broke records, all star, USA team, he said nothing matters more than getting a ring now. Now that the rumor is out & he has the chance to play with cp3 & doc I think he lets NY know straight up he's not coming back so they can trade him.
He wasn't just the first option, he was behind LBJ, Kobe, KD and CP3. It's not hard at to give it your very best in the Olympics, you're playing for your country and you have the best players your country has to offer beside you. Look how guys like VSpan and Pau Gasol play out of their minds whenever they're in the Olympics. The problem with Melo is he doesn't bring that same intensity and focus into the NBA. Saying you want a ring is useless, every star player wants a ring. The question is how badly do you want that ring? Howard left one of the biggest markets and definitely the most popular team in the league to go Houston because the Rox had a better team in place and a GM who knew what he was doing. Melo not only had a better team in Denver, he also wanted his guaranteed money so much he demanded a sign-and-trade which wiped off all of NYC's assets when he could've signed with them in the summer and played in a better team. I guess now he's trying to pull the same stint to land in the Clips, however if I'm the Clips GM why will I trade Griffin for Melo? Griffin's the face of the franchise and his highlight plays makes the Clips sell out everywhere they play. Melo will be 30 this year and his ISO-heavy play and preference for half-court b-ball is boring to watch. Not only that his contract makes it even harder to build a better team, the max right now is 15M-20 but Melo's contract pays him 21-23M over the next couple of years, when his contract expires Melo will be 32 and Lob City would be Old-Ass City.
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/10233011/carmelo-anthony-blake-griffin-proposal-mulled Carmelo for Griffin. Just Broussard talking so probably nothing, but who knows
