Isiah and it's not close, Stockton had a better career due to longevity and coaching stability, but in terms of impact on a game, there is no comparison.
Stockton because he can hit the 3, makes everyone better and his game translates well in any era. Underrated defender too. Adding Stockton to a team like MJ's Bulls or Shaq's Lakers makes them way better than Thomas could. I'd take Thomas in the ISO era and on any roster that needed a 1st option on offense.
Wow didn't know it would be close Isiah was a better player, to me its like Allen Iverson vs billups while billups had success Iverson is better
18 seasons at a 21.8 PER. 13 seasons at a 18.1 PER. You are right, it isn't close... John Stockton, HANDS DOWN...
Stockton's mad overrated in general. I mean, sure Malone was a choker, but no one goes around calling Stockton one as well even though his best playoff series was where he got to beat on Matt Maloney, while he got killed in every playoff series by every good point guard from Kevin Johnson to Terry Porter to Payton.
Only one of these players scored 25 points in the 3rd quarter of a Game 6 of the NBA finals...... On a sprained ankle. And Zeke is my choice.
Player A: .209 WS/48, 207.7 win shares, .160 play-offs WS/48, 21.4 play-offs win shares, career .608 TS%, career 21.8 PER Player B: .109 WS/48, 80.7 win shares, .143 play-offs WS/48, 12.5 play-offs win shares, career .516 TS%, career 18.1 PER Come on, it's not even close.
This is almost like who is the better player, Iverson or Kidd. However I'm still going for the one that beat MJ.
The only problem with that is no one on those Piston teams put up a good PER or WS. Guys like Dennis Rodman and Dumars don't look very amazing with win share.
That's because they had an incredibly amazing defensive team, which is more of a function of team schemes and big man play. Best offensive players on teams that win because of ungodly defense tend to be super overrated. This is how we ended up with Derrick Rose winning the MVP. Iverson also was overrated in this way.
