    Also:

If you don't agree with the results, who do you think should be top 3?

    Irrelevant poll.

Greatest threat? Limited resources and religious fundamentalists.

The US is the greatest threat to world peace simply because we are a large and a very influential country. I would be surprised if we weren't number one. This doesn't necessarily make the US evil or warmongering.

Simply put if the US ever wanted to stir the pot and ruin all life on Earth as we know it, we have the power to do so. Mathloom of course interprets it a bit differently.

People are reacting as if this is shameful or a great insult, when in reality it speaks to how much power we have in the global arena.

Hitler and Stalin once had power too, you admire them as well I'm sure? It's not like they're evil or warmongers.

I'm sure you know a lot about "not claiming to be warmongers"

The rise of America after World War II has led to the most peaceful and civilized era in human history. It has truly been an amazing development.

    Nice correlation.

Here I was thinking this era of "peace" was due to the formation of Communist China after WW2.

I'm not sure about the methodology of this one. If you look at the PDFs, they did include Palestinian territories and South Sudan in the countries where they asked people, but Israel is not part of it. Also, in some countries, the question about the biggest threat simply didn't get asked - why? (e.g., Saudi Arabia). What I also find interesting is that it seems that even in countries where USA is mentioned most as the biggest threat to world peace, it also seems to lead in "if you could choose freely, where would you like to live".

Overall, I guess it is not that far-fetched that the country with the most weapons gets mentioned a lot when answering this question.

I think this is about right. There would be considerably more warfare without the United States' status as the world police.

Let's be fair...the world's largest military involved in the most foreign wars is going to outperform rogue states with psychopathic amibtion, regardless of which nations you selectively sample.

But I think the question is loaded: non-state actors are more of a threat to the world than any nation, even the trolls like North Korea.

Unfortunately it also speaks to some lost opportunities. Industrializing and emancipating the Third World after World War II, economically empowering and stabilizing Africa and the Middle East in the '60s and '70s or streamlining our budget and curtailing global poverty in the '80s might have indirectly lightened our load over the last 15 years.

Religion and ideology are the biggest threats to peace. People believing in something so strongly that they are willing to use force to make people believe the same things they do is what causes war.
