Fisher would be a really impressive pickup. Just don't think it makes any sense at all. Very curious to see what the posters who think it does happen will say if we just get Briles. I think there is a huge problem with people on this board and their understanding in how the financial side of the athletic department works. Forbes rights an article and everyone thinks they are an expert on the program. Texas didn't get to the most profitable program by making huge and possible superfluous expenses. 50-50 chance the board blames Mack Brown on the inability to get Myer, Miles, Saban, Malzahn or Fisher.

Agreed. I can't think of a scenario where a coach has signed an extension and then left a week later. I'm sure it can be done, but there's a sleaze factor about it. That said, I think Briles would doing something similar (though a month later) - and I think he's the most likely choice at this point.

OMG what a joke of a post. Were you even watching football when Macovic was coaching the Longhorns. Trying to convince anyone that Macovic was on Brown's level as a college coach is a joke at best.

UTs coaching rankings go like this:

    DKR
    Mack Brown

IIRC, Briles took RG3 with him from UH to Baylor. He had commit to the Coogs. Baylor has a pretty good prospect committed to him. It would be nice if Briles tried to get him to go to Texas instead.

I'd put Akers above the Everyone else category.

Where did I ever say Mackovic was a better coach than Brown? I just stated the fact that Mackovic won more conferences championships in less time than Brown. It's odd that you find the statement of facts to be a joke of a post.

I'm fine with a guy like Chad Morris coming to Baylor. Texas roots and is up and coming.

I'm not fine with Briles taking recruits esp Cannon and Hall with him but that's what he did before with RG 3. I get why people would have zero sympathy for us.

Some people on inside Texas and hornsports are saying that Ed Orgeron is in Austin interviewing for a staff position. If true, and again take Internet sources for what they are, it might mean that the candidate has been selected and has given his blessing to start assembling a staff. One thought with Orgeron would be Saban coming with Kiffin as OC (Kiffin has been at bama practices) and Orgeron obviously had Kiffin ties.

But another thought which has been brought up is the fact that Orgeron is widely considered to be one of, if not the best recruiters in the nation. This could be important for an NFL guy who doesn't know college recruiting as well and needs to hit the ground running. Obviously Gruden has been mentioned, but another name that has been making some headway is John Harbaugh. Again, I take this stuff from what I read on Texas boards so take it fwiw.

The bama game is tonight, interesting to watch Saban especially in the post game presser. The boards say he has been given a formal offer and wil have until Friday or Satirday to accept before Texas moves on. Patterson doesn't want to get caught with his pants down and will have options lined up in the case that Saban doesn't accept. IF Saban..accepts(and y'all know I still think he does) then it will be very interesting to see when the announcement is made. Monday morning? That would take away some of the focus on the MNC and would certainly be a way to capture the attention of recruits and act as a grand entrance to the new regime. This grand entrance could also work for Harbaugh/Gruden if that happens but would obviously have more of an effect in the case it is Saban

I think Todd Graham signed an extension with Rice and then took the Tulsa job like the same day.

I will eat a tremendous amount of crow if Saban comes to Texas. Obviously, feel like the whole Saban saga was just perpetuated by Texas fans and boosters.

Huge shame that Applewhite didn't have a QB this year to run his offense. Can only imagine what would happened if Ash's brain wasn't destroyed.

    From Wiki:

Graham was named Conference USA Coach of the Year, and was rewarded by the Rice administration with the offer of a significant pay raise and contract extension.[5] After signing this extension, Graham left for Tulsa only a few days later. Graham received much criticism for this move. On November 24, 2007, when Tulsa played Rice at Rice Stadium, the Rice University Marching Owl Band presented a halftime show named "Todd Graham's Inferno"[6] (based on Dante's "The Divine Comedy").

    That's awesome.

The criticism seems appropriate - and it seems like Texas wouldn't want that associated with them (especially with the additional image of them buying a coach), but we'll see. It seems like just about every talked about high-end candidate has signed an extension in the last month (Texas is making a lot of coaches a lot of money!).

Your statement with out any follow up implies you think Makovic was a good coach for UT. He was a complete joke and any attempt to suggest otherwise is a joke of a post. Period.

Yeah, his team only won the first ever Big XII title and he recruited the RB who set the record for most rushing yards in NCAA history. Those two things are complete jokes.

Another one of those masturbatory, fairytale-fantasy wonderland stories for random UT jabronis to trick themselves into believing. Behold the power of imagination, the power of Disney.

He wasn't remotely a joke. The 6 years prior to Mackovic included 4 losing seasons and being ranked at the end of only one season. The 6 years of Mackovic included 1 losing season, 3 ranked teams, and 3 conference titles.

For where the program was at the time, Mackovic did a pretty good job and he left a lot of good talent for Mack Brown to build on (including Ricky Williams and Major Applewhite). But he didn't fit with the donors, so he had no margin for error and as soon as he had a bad season, he was gone.
