I was watching this on CNBC yesterday and they said it should annihilate the previous record held by Kuwait, I believe. Anybody remember Rendezvous Houston when they used the entire downtown skyline as a backdrop for what was, at the time, the biggest outdoor concert, I think. A laser light show with skyscrapers as the canvas.
Jean Michel Jarre. Of course I remember. I watched it with my friends, Mom and her friends. We were in Allen Parkway. I was...17? To signal the show's end, the song "We Built this City" played. My Mom's friend: "WHOO! VIVA LA TEXAS!" The crowd went nuts. And then it took three hours to drive 5 miles (we should have walked) to get back to our own car. HUGE crowd.
Shattered the old record at by Kuwait in 2011. Read that the surpassed it in the first minute alone. Over 500,000 fireworks shot, over $6mill cost. My sister and brother in law were in attendance.
In the meantime, Houston attempted to set the record for fewest fireworks to celebrate New Year's last night, with zero. I think they got it.

I was there watching it live on a 45th floor rooftop tower. It didn't go off exactly at 1200am it went off 45 mins to an hour later I believe. It was epic.
Dubai Fireworks 2014: The Record-Breaking Display By The Numbers http://www.ibtimes.com/dubai-fireworks-2014-record-breaking-display-numbers-1524204 Spoiler
Well the first gif is obviously not in Dubai....the Trees for one....and then the sky is still kind of light.
I don't have any concrete evidence or anything, but there could be trees in Dubai and there's a lot of light pollution from the buildings and other fireworks going off. I see no reason to doubt it's Dubai unless you have something that says otherwise.
