For those of you who say Morey puts little value in coaching , read this article: http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id...trategy-forcing-coaches-rethink-their-offense The NBA game has evolved into a game of tactics similar to the NFL. And yet this irrational fetish for Kevin Mchale.
Around the time of the hire, (when it was questioned whether Les was being cheap in not keeping Adelman vs. going with an unproven McHale) Jonathan Feigan reported that it was the same salary essentially as Rick Adelman & JVG before him. Dont remember how much though, but I think it was 2 million + which is probably in the top half of the league in coaching salaries. However.... why is this important to the OP??? Who gives a s$%#???
Because we could be looking at fraud here or the deliberate misuse or misapplication of the rockets organization's resources to serve the boston celtics agenda. If Mchale is being paid the same amount as Rick Adelman then that is a travesty.
You're obviously trolling. Otherwise you wouldn't be making illogical statements like "If Morey let Adelman go, he must thinks he knows coaching more than Adelman." Morey also would get his ass kicked by Isaiah Cannan in a basketball game. Cannan knows more about basketball than Morey? Morey doesn't need to know how to coach to figure out who to hire to be a coach. Just like I don't need to know how to play pro-basketball to know Lebron James is the best player in the world.
If Les would have paid him a dollar less, he would have been taking heat for firing Adelman for being "Cheap" so pick your argument against Les. Now you can say that he's paying him the same as Adelman because of his Celtics ties which is completely BS by the way. Les is a Jersey native, went to school at NYU and probably grew up hating the Celtics and loving the Knicks. He's the one paying McHale... not Morey. This Celtics ties argument is just plain stupid. Also did you know how much the Nets are paying Jason Kidd.... how about the Lakers and MDA????.... do a little bit of research and find out what the comparable salaries are before you start claiming fraud. He's an NBA coach getting paid a comparable NBA coaches salary just as you would expect to get a market average + salary in whatever job you work. http://sportsgmtalk.wordpress.com/h...-contracts/nba-head-coach-contracts-salaries/
Do your research before you claim its completely BS that celtics ties had something to do with it, do you think Kevin Mchale was justified in trading Kevin Garnett to the Celtics without asking for Paul Pierce in return?
Reading comprehension. I didn't say Morey should know how to play basketball in order to know about basketball. However, people here have been saying Morey is the real coach and Kevin Mchale is just his puppet. Assuming that to be true, that is not Morey's expertise , his expertise is analytics using numbers and statistics to take the proper course of action. Unfortunately, no numbers or statistics justified hiring Kevin Mchale as coach.
And Garnett was even reluctant to leave minnesota because of his loyalty to the City. He was essentially convinced by Mchale to leave minnesota and make a long -term commitment to the celtics. If it was an honest deal, a franchise player would've been traded for another franchise player. Mchale easily could've asked for Paul Pierce AND Al Jefferson if he was honestly dealing for the timberwolves interest. In sum, he essentially ripped off the timberwolves franchise to benefit the boston celtics. You think his lobbying for the celtics didn't earn him any leverage for danny ainge to recommend him to daryl morey? And guess who the assistant general manager for the celtics were when negotiations were taking place? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2954127
Considering you quoted my post and not someone else's, and I never said Morey's the real coach, wouldn't the lack of reading comprehension be on your part? If you want to argue Morey's not a real coach, go respond to someone who believes he is.
This is your post in toto: "You're obviously trolling. Just like I don't need to know how to play pro-basketball to know Lebron James is the best player in the world." What a fine piece of logic this statement is. I simply said Morey is too conceited if he thinks he knows more about coaching that the great coaches who've been there and done it. And then you logically deduce that If Morey let Adelman go, he must think he knows coaching more than Adelman. That is simply non-sequitur. In logic this is a conditional statement , If morey thinks he knows more about coaching than the more experienced coaches then he is too conceited. A conditional statement merely says that assuming it is true than the second statement is likewise true. So if you're so good at logic, what numbers justified hiring a coach with a 39-55 win loss record, and a record of ripping off the timberwolves franchise as a general manager? But I have to admit its fun trolling the MOFs.
Imagine the gall of Kevin Mchale , publicly pronouncing he has no plans of trading Kevin Garnett to Minnesota Fans a few months before he trades him to the Celtics. "Kevin McHale has a simple message for the Minnesota Timberwolves fans who wants him to quit as the toiling club's vice-president: I'm not leaving! And he has also denied there are plans to trade franchise star Kevin Garnett while pledging to rebuild a dysfunctional squad which finished with a 32-50 record, missing the playoffs for a third straight season." Kevin Mchale is simply a double talking, shameless , straight-faced con man. This is April 2007. Then in June 2007 the mega deal takes place despite kevin garnett's reluctance to play for Boston. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/oth...Minnesota.html http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2954127
The Rockets are in fact very effective offensively, ranking 3rd in the league. There isn't a lot of room to improve there. That part of your argument is a complete failure.
I have to say I am slowly turning againnst McHale. I am willing to give him ubtil season end. He's defined him self as an offensive coach. The problem is that offense does not win championships.
