Yeah until he talks about how defense is all effort and then you realize who he's calling out. (Hint, there's mainly one player who doesn't try on defense) it's not rocket science

I'm not defending Harden's defense (he's been awful) but I think he was referring to Parsons and Lin (and maybe even Brooks to a certain extent) too. Trying or not the results aren't there and it is costing us games.

Seem like some people don't understand what's the meaning of " lead by example" .
You got a serious problem if your franchise player is also your least defensive efforts player on the court .
Btw , i have yet to see Harden take the blame on himself , it's always WE must do better rather than I . Howard, Parsons and Lin all blamed themselves after poor performance before , when will Harden acknowledge about his bad play?

I was wondering how do we compare to last season in Defense?

Could anyone come up with some statistics and stuff?

When Asik was playing, Rockets were a top 5 defense. Asik did not need Harden to play defense.

Lin and Parsons? I mean really everyone's D could be stepped up, just Harden's about 20 steps more than everyone else.
I'm not giving my opinion that Harden's defense sucks..but when NBA.com stats as a FACT his defense was horrific in that game, you know its bad.
"BAD MOVE: For all the offense Harden provided, his lackadaisical approach on defense hampered his team severely again Tuesday. Harden took several questionable risks and was caught ball-watching too often, allowing his man to sneak behind him for easy baskets on back-door cuts."

Did you not read the part in my post where I referred to Harden's defense as awful? Trust me, I know how bad he's been. I was just pointing out we have other problems out there as defensively in Parsons and Lin (Brooks too). Unfortunately, it's not just Harden otherwise it would be a much easier fix

Hmm I see, that is something I noticed too,Asik did a better job cleaning up the mistakes from others.

Really a shame that either LMA or KLove weren't available, that team would be beasting.:(

I think Harden has the idea that he's got the most elite defensive big man in the game, which then puts him in an even lazier position to play defense. False comfort, no effort. Asik wouldn't have given him that mentality, he was still proving himself.

We are virtually the same team on BOTH ends as last year, which means we are regressing at an alarming rate!

Here are the key stats on both ends:
    Code:
    [SIZE="2"]
    [B]Offense 2013	Rank #	2012[/B]

    Average scoring margin +3.1 10	+2.8 (#9)
    Offensive Efficiency 1.056	4	1.057

    [B]Defense 2013	Rank #	2012[/B]

    Defensive efficiency 1.025	17	1.028[/SIZE]
We were abysmal for the month of December. We went from +6.7 to +3.1 in scoring margin. Defensively, we were close to the last in the league allowing close to 1.042 (edit) point per possession for the month of December.

What do you mean in your Lin comment? I don't get it, what games are you watching? Have you watched IT against other teams? Lin has been playing some of the best defense of any point guard since rejoining the starting lineup after his injury. Every PG blows by another one and Lin blows by plenty PGs. You guys are so unrealistic when it comes to PG defense on another one. Can you give credit to Lin for containing IT because he sure did? IT did not go off and yeah, he penetrates late in games against any team. Go watch him against other teams. I don't mean to over-defend Lin but to say he didn't contain and play good defense on IT is simply not true.

It doesn't seem like we are any better than last year. I believe we started out at around 5th last year also and we started dropping games.

Not really, defensively, Howard and Asik are pretty similar, and Asik is cheaper and younger, I will take Asik any time of the day, and use the leftover money from Dwight's contract to supplement the cap money to sign a top notch PF.

As I stated more than one month ago, Rox has two flawed stars. Dwight's FT and Harden's defense. Harden's defense won't improve that much. I still fully expect Parsons will leave and Rox signs a top notch defensive SF.

Absolutely. It's so dishonest to say Lin is not defending well now. If anything, it's Lin's offense now isn't where it could be. His defense, for the most part, has been quite good to excellent and even outstanding as it was on Parker against the Spurs.

Sigh. With this being Harden's second year as a "main" guy, we're witnessing a part of his game that was hidden in OKC for the most part because he wasn't required to play/do as much. I wonder if it's a conditioning issue?

Generally, perhaps, and probably in the first half. Problem is he scored pretty darn easily when it mattered in the second half multiple times in a row, with reverse lay-up and and-ones repeatedly, and then drained a few 3s pretty much uncontested as well.

He's for sure quick though! But he shouldn't be that damn open and getting all the way to the basket with no hindrance at all, especially at 5-9!

He got picked off by Cousins repeatedly on those plays. We didn't make any adjustments. IT went straight to the hoop over and over or just pulled up for a wide open 3, lol. What is that?

Cousins sets some great picks by the way.

actually most of Thomas's misses were at the rim aside from a few jumpers. Dwight and Terrance stopped him during these times
