Seemed to work pretty well against Dallas, Portland, Golden State and San Antonio. I think that there is a point to be made that we could upgrade our coach. I am sure management approaches just like they do players. Is an upgrade available, what is the cost, and what is the fit? In my opinion, there are three guys out there who I would consider replacing McHale with: George Karl, Larry Brown and Phil Jackson. I would explore that when McHale's contract is up. George Karl is the guy that screams most attainable, best fit and decent upgrade. I have seen nothing to warrant firing McHale, nothing. I have been quite pleased with the development of Parsons, Jones and Howard, as well as the decision to bring Lin off the bench. Those were all home runs. Is he perfect, no? Serviceable? Absolutely.
God save me from ignorance. You do realize that Houston runs a variation of the R&R offense, the same R&R offense that is run by the best teams in the NBA? That the Rockets have an offensive philosophy set in stone? Threes, foul shots and at the rim. The fewest by far mid-ranged shots in the NBA. That the rockets were on the end of a brutal 4 games in 5 nights, the second in the last 11 days? That the Rockets have 3 new starters this season and defensive rotations in the NBA are complex and need time to develop? Thought not.
But would any of those coaches implement Morey's basketball philosophy completely? I would guess not. In which case hell will freeze over before Morey will hire them.
which team made the trade? yes, it was PHI. I think he made a good point, and you are right too. Morey needs a coach who can implement his philosophy. Mchale is his best option. Is he the best for the team? More importantly, can Morey's philosophy bring above average rank for this team in this league? sharpest tool? lol, I won't conclude so soon, even after 6 years for Morey in this organization, at least not before this team passes 2rd round. no possible if you are not wining ball game and make deep playoff run in a consistent basis.
So jtr do you think Coach Pop, Jackson, Rivers, JVG, SVG, Larry Brown, and other well known coaches would implement Morey philosophy. bwhahahaahah he&& no. Since you are a great mind with the best basketball IQ around here why would these coaches implement Morey's philosophy. Has this philosophy won multiple Championships?
Has that letter won any CHAMPIONSHIPS???? Also name me an HOF coach that would follow this philosophy/letter? We had one and he most definitely wasn't trying to run Morey's LETTER. Actually the Rockets were trying to keep Coach Rich A system remember LOl they wanted him to teach the Assist. Coach his system.
Been following this conversation and it does make me wonder if any good coaches would really consider coming here if they're not given some autonomy from the FO. No good coaches with an established philosophy want to be played like a puppet and take orders from the FO. Once McHale's contract is up I'd be really pissed if Les doesn't think really hard about bringing in a new coach.
Pops is on the Spurs, one of the leading teams in terms of adopting Analytics. They were one of the first teams to institute SportsVu. JVG and SVG are also proponents of analytics. It's not an accident that they are featured speakers during Sloan conferences. Larry Brown is long retired, so no idea. The Celtics have a well developed analytics department (and had a speaker at Sloan). Mark Cuban credited Analytics with being a significant factor in their championship win over Miami. They used it to monitor line ups and determine the best and worst places to position Lebron James to reduce his efficiency. http://www.realityburst.com/mark-cuban-analytics-dallas-championship Analytics is far more expansive and heavily adopted than you think. And it was already integral to winning One championship.
I don't think Morey's philosophy is necessarily bad. I think the silly thing about the arguments here so far is that it is either: A) McHale is a coach who can implement Morey's analytics based philosophy B) Other coaches wouldn't implement this philosophy, so we should change the coach. It is bad. How about this though? C) We get a coach who actually design some set plays and implement Morey's philosophy MORE EFFECTIVELY. Why does it have to be a binary thing and only with McHale? Why can't we see if there is someone else who could take over and do this thing better? I think this is what we should focus on.
That sounds incoherent. Let me rephrase. B) Other coaches wouldn't even implement this philosophy because it is bad. McHale is not a good coach either. We should get another coach and use another philosophy.
Fire this joke already! There is a reason I started this thread a while back. He is as incompetent as it comes and Rox are going nowhere with this clueless guy as coach
There are many differences bet LeBron and Harden, but one diff is Harden doesn't pass to his teammates when they are open. Smh
McFail needs to go, but this loss is on Harden and Howard. Costly turnovers and an inability to get stops and rebounds late.
