Seriously. 14 missed free throws? Dwight 1-7 after he made such a leap since last season? Not even just that, Lin and Casspi both shot 50% from the line, and Garcia 25%. For shooters, that's bad and I expect better. Sure it was 14 misses in a 31 point loss, but think about the other close losses where we missed about 10 free throws. Harden also has these bad lapses where he misses bunches. Jones needs to improve, Parsons is improving, but overall Casspi (68% this season), Garcia (55% this season) and Lin (78% this season) as well as Beverley (78% this season) are the ones that have to be better being shooters. Since getting to the rim is a big part of this team making free throws is important because as we all know, every point counts. Practice and keep it consistent!
I understand when Dwight misses both FTs but Lin and Casspi is doing some of that too. It's almost like the opposing team gets a free possession by fouling.
Shooting FTs in competition must be harder than one thinks cos I am sure these guys practice FTs a lot and yet they still miss. And am sure they are not missing on purpose.
Among the bottom half in the NBA in makes. Free throws have def come back to haunt us as we have lost games by single and low double digits. We do a good job of gettin to the line tho which is encouraging, but if you cant make them what good does that do. I hope Mchale is on them and making all of them shoot free throws in practice. After the Knicks game, we have a long break coming. I hope we use those days to put it all together as a team and come out steaming in all aspects of the game.
The Rockets make more free throws than any team in the NBA right now. That's all that matters. More free points than anyone else. Reggie Jackson is shooting like 95%, makes less than free 2 per game - so does it actually matter? We've got more important problems to worry about.
When you consider that they don't necessarily get a shot attempt when they shoot free throws, it matters. Going 0/2 at the line is as bad as a turnover, which everyone universally cites as an issue.
Only one team has won a championship over the last 25 years shooting below 70% from the line. That was one of the Shaq/Kobe Lakers teams that pierced the 70% threshhold and finished at like 69.9%. We are currently at 69.6% and falling. Is Dwight better than a young Shaq? Is Harden better than a young Kobe?
- Their tired - its mchales fault - tired legs - 4th game in 5 nights - its Moreys fault -blah blah blah etc etc etc
Explain to me why you think that? A TO can lead to a fast break while a free throw missed has yielded how many easy points on the other end? That alone is a good start towards an argument against this comment.
Outside of Dwight Howard, the team is shooting 75.2% from the free throw line, which is just about league average (75.4%). Last year, outside of Omer Asik, we shot 78.6%. 78.6% versus 75.2% for players outside of the starting center would give us 24 extra points on the year. That translates to maybe 1 extra win so far this season.
