The barbaric practices of the Pagan Arabs, just to name a few, are as follows:

    • Women had no status of any kind other than as sex objects. Relations of the sex was extremely loose. Men could have as many wives as they wanted.
    • Female infants were buried alive because they were seen as useless.
    • Drunkenness and Gambling was prevalent.
    • Slavery, men and women slaves were bought and sold like animals.

The advent of Islam addressed these atrocities and sought to eliminate them.

You say Islam didn't do anything about honor killings or sex with children or the treatment of women when

1)honor killings isn't a "Muslim" thing. It's a "r****d" thing. Those who do honor killings do so because of their own cultural vanity and reputation and is completely outside of what Islam teaches and stands for.

    2) Sex with children isn't allowed in Islam and I know the tired Muhammad/Aisha argument comes into play but it's been clarified that Aisha was of age to marry. In those times you reached adulthood when you hit puberty and the age of consent has only recently been raised to 18 when even 50-100 years ago it was 12-14 (Ex: Ancient Rome, England, Europe all had age of consent at 12 and determined it via menstrual cycle) We're talking 1400+ years ago and giving it the same weight of today.

    3) The treatment of Women and the rights and status of women was clearly defined by Islam. Again, before they had no rights and were just viewed as sex toys. Islam gave women rights to divorce, vote, work, owning property and be educated. Before, they inherited nothing from marriage now they received a sufficient portion. They were to be protected, honored and respected.

As for the desire for "sex with tons of women" argument. Here's what Karen Armstrong, a Western non-Muslim scholar had to say about Muhammad
Your argument that the Prophet had a "materialistic motive by creating his religion" is laughably flawed. Before Prophethood, he had no materialistic worries and worked as a merchant and was married to the wealthy businesswoman Khadijah. You would think after becoming a Prophet, this wealth would exponentially increase but he actually became worse off.

The man gave away all his material possessions and spoils of war were donated to the needy immediately. He lived practically in poverty and would literally give the shirt off his back to people. He had no desire to be a leader starting out in his Prophethood. His followers constantly offered him gifts of camels and other goods and he would keep none for himself and donate everything. If he wanted power or fame, he wouldve accepted an offer to be the leader of Mecca by the Pagan Arabs who wanted to bribe Muhammad to stop spreading Islam. He turned it down.

I apologize for you being given a crappy education in Sunday school to the point where you were turned off of Islam entirely but that has nothing to do with the doctrine and it's principals and teachings.

All the arguments you made about all those societal flaws were due to crappy, cultural baggage-having, not-correctly-understanding-Islam Muslims. It's not because of Islam that honor killings, terrorism, ill-treatment of women, happens. If they actually knew their religion and applied it correctly there wouldn't be any of those things.

As a Muslim, I will say no it is not. I come from a split religion house hold, (mom is Catholic, dad is Muslim).I believe that a lot of religions can be perceived as violent without proper context or explanation. Too many times has ignorance or taking a quote out of context lead to the opposite result of what the original quote or influence intended

O please... There are numerous double standards in Islam between Men and Women. You are foolish to believe that they both have equal rights. And there are many credible sources that suggest the Prophet married and consummated with Aisha before the age of 12.

And even if he did do it at 12, the justification of "it was acceptable during that period" is not good enough. Why? As mankind advanced, we realized that 12 is too young an age for a child to decide to give up their virginity. Older men can easily manipulate a 12 year old child thus it is not fair to the child to make such a decision. Ordinary non perfect men figured this out. The prophet of Islam according to Muslims is the embodiment of a perfect man REGARDLESS OF WHAT PERIOD OF TIME HE RESIDED IN! If this is true then he should of known better not to take advantage of a 12 year old girl and **** her.

Also, The Quran explicitly states that the prophet and his followers were allowed to enslave and have sex with women from spoils of war. sura 33:50

Yes, he benefited materially quite handsomely from creating his religion.

You're foolish to believe they don't have equal rights. Like I've said in previous Muslim/Islam-bashy threads: It's best to separate the doer from the doctrine.

Saudi Arabia doesn't let women drive, that's a flaw of the idiots in power in Saudi Arabia and their backwards thinking Sheikhs who support that. There's plenty of other Islamic scholars who explicitly state they are being ridiculous over there. Does Islam say "no drivey for womens"? Nope. That's one of many examples. I'm pretty sure Aisha and other women during the Prophet's time rode horses and stuff, heck they participated in battles, were teachers and businesswomen. Argument killed.

And just to add to the beaten to death Muhammad/Aisha topic. First, I never said that Aisha married and consummated with Muhammad at 12, I explained that it was common in the middle ages to marry that young so why would it be appalling 1000 years earlier than that? Queen Cleopatra first marriage was at 11 years old. And even the Virgin Mary was betrothed to Joseph (who from various Catholic and Jewish sources was either 36 years old or up to 90 **NINETY** years old at the time) between the ages of 11-14 and was pregnant with Jesus around the same time as well. Does anyone say Joseph is a pedophile?

You also have to factor in that lifespans weren't like they are now so people grew up fast. Boys became Men at an early age working for their families and likewise with women.

The taking women as spoils of war had be around loooong before Islam. At least in the case of the Islamic way of dealing with women who were taken captive from war they were treated with the same respect as a wife would be treated. Unlike a prostitute or sex slave that are typically only used for one purpose, the slave girls were a responsibility of the person, who spent on them, gave them a place to live, fed them, clothed them, and raised their children as his children.

And even the Qur'an states in 24:33 that if the slave woman desires to keep chaste, then her Muslim master must not compel her into sex. It might sound odd to us today, but pagans back then were used to having sex with and raping their slave girls, even the ones who were married.

Again, any material gain he received from spreading Islam and defeating combatants who opposed his movement, he gave away, he never reveled in any riches.

Study the Religion and its Context. You can take anything out of Context and make it to be what you want it to be. Many people are uneducated. Educate yourself about religions before you make false claims.

I pulled out stats. Volume speaks louder than one or two random internet trolls with an agenda's opinion.

You stats represent crime not violence and is showing a correlation between belief in heaven vs hell and how it effects crime rates. It has nothing to do with the topic.

If there were no Islamic terrorists between the ages of 18-35 the world would be a much less violent place.

What is this "reading things out of context" talk? If it explicitly says kill non believers, then it is just that - kill non believers. What else is there to interpret? It's not like looking at a piece of painting and drawing up conclusions about it - like the mood of the painter, the setting, etc.

Lol...Context? Context? We talking about Context?
This is the Quran & we talking about context?

That Surah 5:32 that you posted ( or the half Surah...smh) was the message for the Jews! Let's have a look at the WHOLE Surah & then the next one after it, just to put a few things in Context.

...then the very next Verse, given as instruction to Muslims:

    Context is great...

By the way...'cause corruption' ( or sometimes translated as Mischief) is in reference to following or preaching your own religion & denying Islam...but you knew that.

    Would you like more context?

Your stats include non-violent crime like theft and prostitution.

Also the chart is more of a representation of belief in heaven and hell or just in heaven. The point is if you only believe in heaven, you are likely to commit crime.

IT has nothing to do with what religion is more violent.

Those stats aside, it is clear who commits most of the violent crimes (and non-violent.) The top 3 stats are violent ones.

Any Google search seems to indicate Muslims and Atheists have the lowest correlation with both violent and non-violent crimes.
